Fallout D20?

I don't want to kick a hornet's nest or anything, but...

Fallout was originally based totally on GURPS. There was a falling out between Steve Jackson and Interplay that resulted in the GURPS name being removed from Fallout. This didn't effect the underlying mechanics of the game design however.

Don't let this deter anyone in going forward with this idea, however.

Although I haven't actually looked at it too much, Darwin's World looks like it might be a pretty good starting point for a Fallout game. It is post-apocalyptic.

I guess you could just strip the background and replace it with Fallout's.

Hmm. Onsecond thought the more I think about it the more work that might be needed. After all you'd still need the game specific stuff to really be Fallout.

*sniff*

I wish there was a Fallout d20.

Darwins World is excellent, i've bouth all that has been released so far and it is great, and i'm looking forward to the print version too....

but it's the Fallout World that is so fantastic it really is great in how it's presented and depicted.

Really?? i never heard that before, although i guess on one hand i'm quite glad it didn't end up GURPs as there is nothing Generic about Fallout it's too unique and inspiring

Anyone know if Fallout 1 plays on win2k? I loved fallout 2 but I don't want to buy a game I can't play.

Well barring the odd hardware conflict you should be fine, i've played FO1, FO2 and FOT on everything upto and including WinXP professional..... although they do have a tendency to crash more on Win XP

That's odd. I heard similar rumors, but there is really nothing at all reminiscent of GURPS in the SPECIAL system. It reminds me a lot of 3E instead (not meaning to imply that either system "ripped off" the other!). You could even replace the six D&D attributes by the SPECIAL set to make it look more like the original game, Although the other mechanics should probably stay D&D, as I think action points and such are more of a hindrance to pen-and-paper play.

I think GURPS would be quite suited for the background, too. It never seemed "bland" to me because of it being a "generic" system. The reason why I prefer d20 right now (another supposedly "generic" system, BTW) is ease of use.

When I first bought Fallout 1, I remember looking through the Vault Dweller's Survival Guide that came with it and thought "Hey, I've got a video game AND an RPG." With a wee bit of work you could use that as sort of a players guidebook.

I just thought that was really cool.

I miss the days of a good juicy book that used to come with games. You get so little reading material with the games these days.

I couldn;t agree more, i mean i know the price is less because there are no printing costs when the rulebook is a PDF on the CD-Rom itself, and theres less cost as packaging is smaller as a result....but i miss rulebooks with my games too :o(
