Familiar - You can help pick!

Heh, I need something that doesnt look outrageous, this is a PC and she travels with a CN and a CG character. She plays the part of an Aristocrat, not a vile necromantic monster, and so her familiar needs to be able to be seen by the party without raising horrible suspicion, and also it needs to be dead. I have looked over the familiar list and I have a few supplements also I went through, but just nothing jumped out and said, "Hey, this totally fits!".

Joe again has come up with the right of it, I'd rather just have a feat than a familiar at all, but I dunno how the DM will go for that. Really, he probably wouldnt care.

If I take a feat, that starts the long process of deciding what feat I want. =(

Any more ideas on familiars will also be taken seriously. I wish you guys included where the familiars you listed already were from though, I have no idea where to find a LE pseudo dragon familiar

Just ask the DM if you can "summon" a wicked/fallen psuedo-dragon...decended from Blue dragon, and kill it, raise it, and bond with it. :D

How about some fiendish <template> snake? If you play the 'wisdom and clear sight' angle of serpents it might not seem all that bad to outsiders. And if the templates boost poison damage up through the roof, all the better ...

oh yeah, *that's right*, the "new & improved" AD&D where there's no more imp, quasit, brownie or pseudo-dragon familiars...

anyhow, I guess just a regular pseudo-dragon might work, preferably maybe one that tends more to Neutral than CGood? Maybe a reanimated one?

Also though: cats are aristocratic and sneaky, right? Might be good at fooling people? There's also suspicions of ordinary citizens one might not want to tip off too much right? And a black cat familiar might just be the ticket, looks like a pet, but happens to be an undead cat "oh she's very shy, she keeps to the shadows mostly"

It could be like some sort of fiendish snake, and if/when it dies, I could raise it from the dead then. I am sure I could arrange for its death during some struggle to "save" the party. What does a snake give its master again? Bonus on alertness? ugh.

I would recomend a ghost brute animal - basically the ghost of an animal. Wicked powers, undead, and can be either very subtle or very dangerous. A raven or a cat seem thematically appropriate for your character. Watch out for Good Clerics.

We are playing in a version of Stephen R. Donaldson's "The Land" (Chronicles of THomas Covenant). The Land has no Clerics. This makes the whole undead Schtick so so much better.

Can Imps shapechange? If so, what shapes can they take? An Imp could really work, I think...assuming the world supports summoning Demons...it could always be an "Imp-Like" creature, too. Wow, this would be so cool. He could be a prissy white cat by day, and a fire and brimstone monster when needed. I'm sold on that.

Personally if you are going to go with a standard Familiar and let it die, go with a rat.
The +2 Fort save is wonderful!
