SamuraiY First Post Mar 18, 2003 #1 How do you determine the level of a familiar? I would geuss that you use the number of hit dice, but I'm not really certain.

Crothian First Post Mar 18, 2003 #2 What do you mean by "level of the familiar" ? Many Familiars use the HD of the Wizard they are attached to for many things for instance.

SamuraiY First Post Mar 18, 2003 #3 Perhaps I should clarify... I recently proposed a Greater Familiar feat in the House Rules Forum which allows you to take a familiar that is half elemental(or celestial or fiendish). Depending on how you determine a familiar's level this could be WAY too powerful.

SamuraiY First Post Mar 18, 2003 #5 True. Do you have any ideas on how to figure that out? I would imagine that its CR would increase with all the abilities it gets for being a familiar.

Crothian First Post Mar 18, 2003 #6 Okay, what exactly are you doing this for? I think I might be more help if I know the contect this all applies in.

SamuraiY First Post Mar 18, 2003 #7 Okay, the familiar in question would be...a half-water elemental tressym cat. CR normally: 2 1/4
Crothian First Post Mar 18, 2003 #8 Okay, and you just want it to become a familar? If so I'd think the Improved Famaliar feat would be fine.

SamuraiY First Post Mar 18, 2003 #9 Again, that all depends on its effective level (or whatever), because it would get some pretty mean spell-like abilities at higher levels.
