Fantasy and Sci-Fi favorites

Add my name to the list of fans of Perdido Street Station and Book of the New Sun. Those two, along with Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay, revitalized my interest in the fantasy genre.

I wouldn't say it "blew my away" but another book (series, actually) that held my attention for awhile was Guilty Pleasures by Laurel K Hamilton. The series got a little tired, imho, but the first 4 or 5 books were great fun.

Steven Brust's Jhereg series, and To Reign in Hell.

Steven Donaldson's Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever.

Robert Asprin's early work, including The Bug Wars, and his Another Fine Myth series.

David Weber and Steve White's Starfire books (Insurrection, Crusade, In Death Ground, The Shiva Option).

Zahn and Brust are two of my buy-on-sight authors... although some of the recent Zahn (Angelmass in particular) haven't really grabbed me... write Blackcollar 3, damn it!

Brust's Taltos books are great (except Athyra). Brust's Khaavren books are great. Freedom and Necessity was fantastic. To Reign in Hellwas... interesting. It's not something I'm in a hurry to read again, but I'm glad I read it, y'know?

Michael A. Stackpole

Mike Stackpole used to be one of my buy-on-sight authors... I loved everything of his I'd read up to and including Dark Glory War. Even his traps in the first Grimtooth's supplement were cool

But Dragoncrown hasn't really excited me. It's... readable. But I wouldn't go out of my way to read it again.

I'd like to read more of his Star Wars stuff - a lot of the Star Wars authors at the moment are awful. But I'll happily read anything Zahn or Stackpole write.

That's Star Wolf. Starwolf was a trilogy by Edmond Hamilton, from memory, that came out as a single book in the Venture line (which was where I was introduced to Timothy Zahn and David Drake).

And yeah! Isn't there supposed to be another Star Wolf book out this year?

... ooh! It looks like it's out!

I've read a lot of the authors mentioned (McCaffrey, Brust, Zelazny, de Lint, Donaldson, Asprin, etc) but these were the books that really grabbed me by the heart, that made me laugh or cry or absolutely astounded me with revealed secrets.
