Fantasy Anime Movies?

Alchemist

First Post
I like anime, for what little I've seen. I like fantasy, or I wouldn't spend the time I should be studying for midterms here. I don't know what is out there for fantasy anime. Could I get some suggestions for good flicks? Thanks!

I'll second Lodoss War (the 2 DVD set is the OAV, and the 4 DVD set is the TV series, which takes place after the OAVs).

Also good: Magic Knight Rayearth, Escaflowne, Slayers.

Not-so-good (IMO): Legend of Crystania.

I've only seen the first couple epsiodes of the second one, but it seems as good as the first.

I thought this was about a game! I'm not a huge fan of anime, but I'd like to do some kinda anime-like game sometime using Mutants and Masterminds to model the whacko powers that lots of anime heros seem to have.

Lodoss is dumb, dumb, dumb. Oh, the artwork and music are great, but Parn (the main hero, a fighter/paladin lookalike) makes Luke Skywalker look like Errol Flynn. Not that that stops Deedlit, the archetypal elf babe, from mooning all over him.

Now if you play D&D and appreciate KoDT-style humour at all, you must watch Slayers.

Does anyone here watch the Cartoon channel? After midnight (Eastern time) there is adult swim. Showcases anime. Reign is different and I'm coming to like the stylish Cowboy Bebop series.

Some recommendations:
Heroic Legend of Arislan (Becomes 'Arslan' in the fifth set, due to retranslation or something. Also, it kind of .. ends. As I understand it - and I may well be misremembering - there were more sections but we'll probably never see them here in the States. But the characters designs are wonderful; it was a big inspiration for my current campaign)

Garzey's Wing - Two sections, both combined on DVD I think. Boy's spirit (or part of it, at least) is transported to an alternate fantasy world.

Berserk. Only seen the first DVD of five to this one, but I enjoyed it a great deal.

Orphen. Only seen the first disc, but I'm hooked. Waiting for the boxed set to come out.

We've also named some others over in the Book/TV forum.

You also want to check out Anime on DVD; It's the best review site I've come across yet.
