Fantasy Flight Games is having another sale . . .

Shipping for me was $9.40 for the seven Blue World books. That was the cheap, slow way -- the default was USPS priority, or something like that, at a whole lot more.

Strange, I ordered the 7 BW books + and extra players guide and shipping was over $12 ( cheapest option - UPS Ground )

This morning I ordered 4 sourcebooks and 14 of those short adventures. Shipping (UPS ground) was $8. And they threw in a free Fireborn supplement.

Seems fair to me.

II've been impressed with Fireborn, though I've only read the DM Guide and Players guide. Very creative game and setting, I love the duality of the characters. Not sold on the system though, but I haven't had a chance to play it.

PS- Where is Spells & Spellcraft? The only L&L book I don't already own. That one is old (3.0) I'm surprised it's not on the list...

It's out of print now. You can look at various other FEGS* or eBay, but they don't have any anymore in their warehouse.

You can also try seeing if they sell it as a PDF and print it, but it won't look as good on the shelf...

I remember a novel of the same name a while back, seemingly on the same subject. Was the novel based on the game, the other way around, or totally unrelated?

Assuming you mean the Jack Vance novel, I don't think it has anything to do with it, other than having a whole planet covered by sea.

I could be wrong though, because I only read the "blurb" of the RPG, and not the actual book... anyone more informed can shed some light?

Finally remembered the author - Alison Sinclair. Book was named Blue heart. Amazon link Basically political intrigue on a waterworld. Pretty good book.

I got a copy of each of the Blue Planet books on a lark. $5 a pop, why not? I remember a novel of the same name a while back, seemingly on the same subject. Was the novel based on the game, the other way around, or totally unrelated? In any event, it was interesting enough to make me think the game books might be cool, even if I never get to run them.

AFAIK there is no correlation between the RPG and any novel I am aware of.

But that doesn't matter. Blue Planet is one of the most brilliant hard science fiction settings out there, right after Transhuman Space. The backstory is that near the end of the 21st century, people from Earth discover a stable wormhole leading to another star system with a habitable world - a planet they call Poseidon, for 97% of the surface are covered by water.

They send a colony expedition through the wormhole. The colonists set up shop and wait for reinforcements from Earth - but they never come, since Earth suffers an ecological catastrophe thanks to an accidentally released grain virus. The colonists are forced to "go native", and prosper against all the odds.

A hundred years later, Earth has stabilized enough to send another expedition to Poseidon. Scientific research teams then discover a weird substance they dub "Long John", which helps tremendously with manipulating biological proscesses and is highly useful for rejuvenation treatments - and thus, increadibly valuable.

A "gold rush" sets in and new colonists and explorers flock to the planets. Multiple multinational corporations set up shop. Political strife is imported from Earth and is intensified, and some of the descendants of the original colonists - now dubbed "Natives" are rather unhappy with all those newcomers. The colonists have do deal with the Law, criminals, native terrorists, and the hostile environment if they are to survive and prosper.

And in the depths of Poseidon, strange creatures with uncanny powers move around, observing these new entities and making their own plans for the future...

The whole setting has a great atmosphere - a mixture of Wild West and Cyberpunk combined with one of the best described alien environments out there (a few of the authors are marine biologists, and it shows). I can only recommend it to everyone.

And $5 per book is a steal.

I will stick by my no new hardcopies book purchases rule.

But I'd love the path, monster handbook, and giant and twiseted lore pdfs at that price range. I picked up their undead and dragon lore ones for $5 at dtprg.com and I'm happy with the purchases.

Well, I will resist this new sale - but only because I participated in the last one, and the only books in this one that might interest me are the Dragonstar books.

Besides, I already ordered 8 Scarred Lands books from a local online RPG shop yesterday when I realized that that shop had similarly reduced prices as White Wolf...

Blue Planet sounds intriguing, but I have to ask myself if I really need more gaming books. Especially those that my group will never play because it's not a d20 system.
