As I think that D20 Dwarf is the defacto person to speak to, for the love of everything that is holy, please please please include a REAL table of contents in the next FFG book! All of the Path of ... books have a simple, large ToC which only has the chapter title and page number. However, page numbers for finding a specific school or prestige class is nowhere to be found. If I want to look for something I must flip for it until I strike it for -everything-.

It never made any sense to me, since an exhaustive ToC could be put on using smaller fonts on one page (i.e., Oriental Adventures has a 3 column ToC which lists up to page 200 on the first page.) Since the Path of ... books are less then 200 I'm sure it could be possible. So ... whaddya say?

FFG Table of Contents . . . or index?

Hiya-

Rob Vaughn, Associate RPG Developer at FFG. Nice to meetcha, everyone.

Unfortunately, there are no more Path of ____ books coming out with which to implement any kind of table of contents addition. I will point out that each Path book has a complete index in the back, so for instance, if you wanted to find Force Weaver in the Path of Magic you'd just flip to the back, look in the index, and find that it's on pages 15 and 16. Every school, prestige class, and feat are listed in the indexes.

Since most of the time folks will be thinking of a specific class or school that they know the name of, an index just seemed like the most efficient way to handle it. Especially when considering that the books are shorter than core rulebooks at 172 pages instead of 256.

However, I'm certainly open to change for future books. Anyone else out there want to see a detailed index?

Yes, please.

Great books that would only be made better by a detailed contents page. Don't lose the index page, just improve the contents page.

I guess I'm just used to checking the index first. Especially now that the 3e books' indices are usually correct, as opposed to their 2e cousins. I never noticed the Path books' ToC were, thin, for lack of a better word. Great books all the same.

It's not just the Path Of... books

None of FFG's books have useful TOC's in them. Heck, the Dragonstar Starfarer's Handbook TOC has all of nine entries in it. It wouldn't be such a pain if the rest of the book wasn't so darn cool.

edit Minor speling misteaks.

Not to pile on....

But yeah, please do something more with the ToCs. I would walk a mile for an FFG book, I think you guys only get better with each publication. But the Table of Contents could uses alot of work.

In fact, in these parts, you guys are known for having lousy Table of Contents.

I love the books though, hell, I own everything you guys have done and I encourage my players to buy your stuff as well; so please don't take any of this the wrong way.

Complete ToC's are absolutely necessary. I didn't buy (no joke) the Ultimate Book of Prestige Classes because of the (non-existent) ToC. ToC's give a visual indication of where items are in a book in relation to each other, unlike an index.

ALso, flipping open Spells & Spellcraft, the ToC gives me absolutely no idea where feats are. Presumably under Craft of Magic, but maybe not. Flipping to the index and looking up feats (sorcerer & wizard, 68-70) is something of a hassle, and doesn't tell me what else is in that chapter.

Thanks!
Nell.
