I dont remember a lot of the specific statements, more the gist. He came across as extremely cynical and rather condescending. I remember him making a number of quite discouraging statements aimed at aspiring fantasy writers. A lot of bashing Tolkien for not having enough sex/romance content in his work...I remember him saying something to the effect of that most "genre" fiction, meaning fantasy, is written for profit and not because its something any author would really aspire to right or something along those lines. He seems to be very disparaging of people who have a faith/religion. I might have to re-read it some time...I just remember a lot of negativity, cyncism, and elitism. And I began to see where a lot of his negative, cynical ideas were being put forth in the fiction itself.

I don't think any list without mentioning Katherine Kurtz's Deryni series is complete.

They are my favorite books of all time. And I know that back in the days of 2e dragon magazine introduced the deryni power into the game it was the forerunner of psionics.

That's the one issue of Dragon I kept. Issue #78, dated October 1983. My memory is pretty rusty, but wasn't there some sort of psionics rules included in the AD&D Player's Handbook, before 2nd edition came out? I think the articles in the magazine worked on tweaking those rules and making more sense out of them, but I don't think they can accurately be called the forerunner, since psionics rules (in some form) existed before the articles in the magazine came out.

And yes, I also consider the Deryni books to be great reads. Great setting, very good characters and events.

It's been a while since I looked at the PHB 1st edition, but wasn't psionics in the back of the book?

Wolfe has a third book in the series coming out soon. It was mentioned in the latest issue of Locus magazine.

I didn't notice if anyone montioned the "Sanctuary" series yet.

You mean Thieves' World? As far as anthologies go, I think it's pretty good. One of the books has an early Diane Duane short story, and my brother took a class at college taught by the son of one of the contributors (w00t!).

I also have a boxed set (sadly incomplete) of Sanctuary. The Characters booklet, the one that had all the game stats, is the only thing missing
