I am a little bit ashamed for admitting this, but along with some movie soundtracks playing in the background, this is the only thing I use for sound effects: Instants! Collection

and a 99 cent iPhone app to boot! Though to get my nickel, it'd have to have "And it exploded" from Galaxy Quest. You'd be surprised how often that comes up in casual conversation.
