Fantasy themed tables?

Nameless1

First Post
Is there a good resource out there that is free that is basically just a bunch of fantasy themed lists? I am interested in seeing something like that, but my limited googging didn't turn anything up. I figured that I would quit screwing around and just go to a good source for this kind of info.

If there isn't anything that is free, is there a nice PDF that fits the bill that is cheap?

At $50 Ultimate Toolbox is anything but cheap. It's a sequel to AEG's Toolbox, which should be just fine for what you need and significantly less at $15 used on Amazon. For treasure lists, I really recommend Necromancer Games' Mother of All Treasure Tables. But neither of these things are free.

If you want free maybe what you should be looking for are random generator programs. Everyone who plays D&D and knows a programming language seems to have at least one. For instance, Asmor.

A few that come to mind:

TableSmith tables: There are a ton of free tables on the TableSmith Yahoo list that contain various lists of fantasy-related stuff. The table files are plain text so they can be used just for inspiration if you don't need/want to run them in the program. link

CDD#4: I just ran across this myself - a PDF called "CDD#4 - Encounters Reference.pdf". It's intended for AD&D/OSRIC, but there's a ton of tables for religions, resources, temples, NPC traits, etc. besides all the 1st Edition-specific stat blocks. I run 4E myself but I definitely see some use for this. link

World Builder: I think this is the first book in the series from Troll Lords that had Gary's (Gygax) name on it. I think the lists were real-world themed rather than fantasy, though. It's not free, but you may be able to find a PDF of it cheap. Link: Not sure; probably need to search for it on Google or eBay...

There's a wide variety of system-neutral generators (for names, fortunes, descriptions, foods, plot hooks - almost anything) at Abulafia wikisite. Go to "All generator" on the left to see a list by topic.

If you want to see the tables these things are based on, a short tutorial at the bottom of the main page tells you how to get to them.

Different beasts, actually (though similar in some ways, sure). Anyway, the *PDF* should be considerably cheaper, and that was what I was specifically referring to.

I can't recommend Scot Hoover's CDD#4 enough, though: it's an excellent resource (and the price is certainly right!).

Not free, but pretty cheap @ $7 is Eldritch Weirdness Vol 1-3 @ Eldritch Weirdness Compilation: Books Three to One by Matthew Finch (Book) in Games, which is quite good.

You might also want to check out the 1e DMG, which has a number of useful tables and lists in its appendices (although these have also been mined/expanded upon in the TLG and Toolbox books already mentioned).
