Fantasy Toys - what do you have?

I don't have Legos, although I'd like to, as they make fun-tastic minis. I suspect my lack of them is due to the lack of "100 random minifigs - $5" and the growth of "X playset, including 3 minifigs - $10".

no toys, but terrain

They aren't "toys" so much, but get this... I've found some AWESOME terrain pieces in the fish department of the local pet store. Seriously, if you haven't seen any of these check out the fish tank accessories next time you are in to by dog food or cat litter (or whatever)... and the prices sure beat GW terrain pieces all to heck.

So I have shelf full of fish tank accessories I use as terrain props. Two shelves, actually.

Oh, and a bit more on topic, I've also gathered some Yu-Gi-Oh figs, and those things that aren't exaclty legos? Battle-Dragons? Not sure what they are called, but they've got little themeatic sets, Ice, Fire, Smoke, etc. I use some of those, too.

I have a bunch (three or four dozen at least) of the old rubbery "Monsters in my Pocket" figurines. They come in a half dozen solid colors, and quite a few of them have D&D counterparts: medusas, mummies, werewolves, hobgoblins, hydras, griffons, etc. I bought them years ago from a Kay-Bee Toys bargain bin. They've since been put to good use as first Hero Quest and then later D&D figurines.

I used a Godzilla toy as a fiendish tyrannosaurus a couple of sessions ago. My "Alien Queen" toy stands in as "Insecticore," my Giant Monster Rampage kaiju PC. (My sons both use robots they built out of their old Lego kits, although we've also used a Mothra toy and a Jigglypuff plush doll in the past.)

Although I've never used them in a gaming session, I also couldn't pass up the opportunity to buy a Tars Tarkas action figure or an Ultraman statue.

Hi all! :)

I have a 8" Gandalf figure I was nice enough to get as a birthday present. :)

I also have quite a few of the old Dungeons & Dragons action figures from my youth: Warduke, Strongheart and so forth (all except the cleric called Mercion). Although truth be told Warduke suffered a sword of sharpness wound to his right arm many years ago and has not yet recieved a regenerate spell to put him back together. :o

Toys? You want toys?

I wish I had a digital camera so I could take a picture of my book shelves and closet...

I'm doing this from work, so I'm going to forget a lot of what I have, but here's a quick stab at what I can remember (and this doesn't include allt he Star Wars toys I have in storage at my Mom's house in New York). I have lots (20+) of the old 80's D&D figures, both the action figures and the rubbery monsters that didn't bend. A bunch of LotR figures, including the cave troll and Treebeard. Various action figures from lots of different toy lines (Spawn, Batman, Star Wars, TMNT, and others that I have no idea what they are from, but they look cool). D&D miniatures. And Legos. Lots and lots of Legos. A closet almost entirely full of them, and a bunch on display on the shelves. Pirate ships, castles, spaceships, etc. I like Legos... If I can get a camera, I'll take a picture or two and post it here.

Speaking of Legos, in the first and second pictures in the very first post of the thread, there is a Lego-like figure with a green beard holding a twisted staff. What is he? I might need to get one of those...

That would be great. ;)

That's a wood sprite by Playmobil. It's not as big as a standard Palymobil. They used a child-size figure to represent the fact that it's smaller than a human adult. I don't know if it's still in production. I bought it a few years ago. It's bigger than a standard Lego minifig.

BTW what does Mrs CL think of your toy collection?

Hello, Krusty, :D

IIRC you also have (or had) a purple dragon like one that you can just see in my second pic in my opening post. No?

Well, seeing as we just had a conversation about it (and my book collection) the other night, I can tell you exactly what she thinks. :)
"Before you buy any more toys, why don't you think about getting rid of a few that you already have? You don't play with them, they just take up space in the closet or on the shelf. Do you really NEED any more? You have 5 bookshelves full of books and toys, a large closet, a game room, and several piles of books on the floor. I have two bookshelves. Maybe you should start thinking about what to do with what you have instead of what you want. Maybe you should game more, because you seem to buy more stuff when you aren't gaming."

Yeah, thats pretty much verbatim what she said. And you know what? I think I'm beginning to agree with her. I do have too much stuff. Thank goodness we own our house, because I hate moving. All my books are HEAVY, and I was getting really tired of carting them around whenever we moved. Some of my friends are starting to call my game room "The Library". But she did say I should game more. thats a good thing!

I'll work on getting those pictures. ;)

LEGO all the way - build the terrain you want? sweet!

Some of the clone brands might be good for gaming as well, and cheaper - MegaBloks has some figures that look very orcish, for example.

I'm not much on collecting posable figures. However, everyonce in a while a certain Star Wars (produced by Hasbro naturally (the company that has Wizards as a subsidiary)) figure will grab my attention. My most recent Star Wars figure acquisition was Anakin Skywalker from Attack of the Clones. I am thinking that when I get a job, I might actually start feeding the beast even more by completely delving into the collectable figure craze. Oh well.
