Re: My worries

I too have been waiting for this a long time! But I do have a major concern:

The quality of the product in terms of innovation as a game, not just a wonderful coffee-table book. As more and more d20 games are released, we are seeing more innovations (Spycraft is a good example), and a stronger rules knowledge-base.

Innovation can bite me. Just make it playable and fun, and I can add any d20 rules tweaks from other books I want.

I want a book I can sit down with my non-gaming friends who are fans of Farscape and start up a game. So hopefully it'll be nicely tweaked for ease of use and maximum playability...

Don't forget that you will still need your PHB...

Latest words from AEg regarding some enquiries i made

Further Updates about Farscape RPG on the website will occur once it's off at the printers in a few weeks..

Once released apparently AEG marketing has plans to support the game with web enhancements etc.. though what exactly we can expect they don't know.

Regarding the release of other product for Farscape after the rule book.... well i quote.

"There are tenative plans for a GMs' Screen, but we've designed the game to be as self-sufficient as possible. Considering the lengthy delays invovled in working with Henson, future supplements are unlikely. That may change if the book sells particularly well, however, or we can establish a more efficient way of clearing the material through Henson".

All the above from Rob Vaux of AEG.

The impression i get considering the number of other releases they originally had listed to follow the rules is that the delays from Henson have seemingly dampened most of the initial enthusiasm AEG seemed to have had for the game..... as were only likely to get a GM's screen now unless hordes of folks buy the guy (heres hoping!)

Oh, it seems licence owner has spoiled the work and the enthusiasm of Alderac folks :( I hope the game will sell well!

"On a personal note, I always thought Farscape made for very easy role-playing, for the reasons already cited. Ensemble cast, lots of bickering, etc. As for the "wonder of exploration" factor… while there's no humans out there (Henson was VERY insistant that John Crichton is the only human in the Uncharted Territories), there's nothing to say you can't roll up a Sebacean (or Nebari or Luxan) from a backwater world who gets picked up by a ship from the stars. I think the game will facilitate a lot of different party set-ups from the Farscape universe. And of course, I say that with no bias or prejudice whatsoever.

I really hope the game meets everyone's expectations. God knows it took long enough to get here. At the very least, I can guarentee some tasty eye candy. Steve Hough and Mark Jelfo have done an incredible job on the layout, and the purty pictures alone should blow your socks off.

"The Uncharted Territories section has a bunch of brand new planets, plus a monster section with some unqiue but (hopefully) suitably Henson-esque beasties. We've also developed new stuff for the different cultures, so you can have things like Hynerain battleships or adventures on Nebari Prime if you like. (That's actually one of the reasons for the delays: Henson wants to check that stuff VERY carefully.)

Of course, your players can always just steal the book and read those sections, but that's out of our hands. The designer who figures out how to keep players from peeking at the GM's stuff will be a god among men (or at least gamers).

" 'the players are a bunch of NASA astronauts sent through the wormhole to find out what happened to Crichton. That way, you get a party of characters, and you still keep the human element. '
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can probably facilitate that with the rules in the RPG. The Sebacean rules include modifications for 'Sebacean offshoots,' which are basically humans, and we have game stats for the Farscape module as well. Running a campaign of the sort you describe shouldn't be a problem.

Of course, it will depart from 'official' Farscape continuity. According to them Crichton really and truly is the only human being out there. They were very insistent about it, which is pretty understandable.

But I'm assuming you're okay with breaking from official continuity.

Rob Vaux recently said on rpg.net that the book had just gone to the printer. Gen Con is the target release date.

(What? The Farscape rpg missed a date? I'm as shocked as you are.)
