Fast advancement in Age of Worms and other campaigns

I'm currently DMing Age of Worms and we are at the beginning of Hall of Harsh Reflections (module #4). I can't recalll the exact number of sessions, but I'd guess that it has been about 10-12 so far, 5-8 hours per session. I try to move the story along quickly, but things often bog down in planning (which is sometimes okay because it gives me a chance to read ahead). I'd like to finish the AP in a year to a year-and-a-half.

I, too, find it extremely unrealistic that a group of adventurers could go from 1st to 20th within 6-8 months of game time, but there's little that can be done about it when playing an AP. I might add some extraneous adventures (return to white plume mountain?) to make it seem more realistic.

I realise that what I'm about to say may make some people react but I would be quite happy to see a campaign run from 1st - 20th in about a year's time (assuming you could play weekly or bi-weekly) give or take a few months.

Sounds fine to me. :)

Cheers!

I really need some kind of way for them to train skills and feats outside of the level mechanic... anyone know if Buy the Numbers allows for that (while still working with the level system)?

I was wondering the same thing. I actually bought the numbers last week :) but I haven't had a chance to read it yet. Anyone else using this?

There have been times that I have stated my gaming opinion and unexpectedly took a lot of fire from it. Then there are times where you expect the fire and it doesn’t come. It’s semi-embarrassing. It’s kinda like preaching from the soapbox and finding out no one cares. You’re like “yeah….okay….I guess I ranted for nothing….just walking back to my little corner”

Oh well :p and here I was looking forward to being all controversial

Good luck after Gathering man. The PCs will be screaming for mercy when they reach the Spire of Long Shadow. Trust me.

Cool.

The last session was great. Peggy got to use mass fly to great effect; it's good when having a spell makes the difference between success and failure. I got to ambush Tom's Rogue with a
Shadow Spider and put him on the demiplane of Shadow
. I was looking at the adventure and thinking, "they need someone to climb now. Oh no, what have I done!" and then Peggy's wizard cast mass fly and everything looked up. :)

Mind you, when Bradford's paladin agreed
with the Salamander
to not loot the dungeon, I almost lost a player to a furious Tom. Tom likes playing rogues and loves looting.

Cheers!

Yeah rogues and looting are kind of like cops and jelly donuts. Well once they get down further, I'm sure they'll find something they'll like.
