Fast help for sonic damage!

I am still convinced that this whole discussion would be senseless without that silly energy substitution feat.

As for flaming weapons underwater: Sure the water around it starts to boil. Cool. Then you wouldn't be able to thrust it somewhere. And the steam would hurt you too. Silly rulings.

I guess I include a permanent Endure Elements against the specific energy type in all similar weapons. Would make sense.

I little off the topic, but I think it would be silly to have flaming spells under water. Sure maybe some seam and spittle, but definetly nothing high enough to cause damage. Electricity, could act as a fireball. Point of orgin being the caster though. Acid, I can see being able yo be used in water, as long as the range was short, after that the acid would dilute.
I also think a silence spell should work vs sonic attacks. No sound, no attack. It dosen't say it changes sound so that it can not be heard (That would be alteration anyway). It makes sound go away.

What can I say? I concede defeat. :)

Howdy Skip,

Would a Silence spell negate the damage caused by a Sonicball (Energy Substituted Fireball), if the Sonicball was detonated within the area effected by the Silence spell? I'd say no, but not 100% sure.

No sonic damage within an area of magical silence.

If the Sonicball is detonated outside the area but part of the Sonicball spread into the area of Silence, would the Silence spell still cancel out the Sonicball? I'd still say no, but not 100% sure.

Only in the area of overlap.

PHB p252-Silence
This spell provides a defense against sonic or language-based attacks, such as command, harpy song, a horn of blasting, etc

How the hell are we even having a discussion on this?

Its like arguing that 2+2=4 in the decimal system.

It specifically says it prevents sonic attacks in the freakin spell description. Next you'll tell me that Shield doesn't stop Magic Missles and that Incorporeal creatures are able to bypass Mage Armor.

WTF?!

I agree, I think that the energy substitution feat is incredibly silly - disallowed it from my game entirely. In fact I don't like any of the energy related feats which they introduced in T&B. I much prefer Monte Cooks idea of introducing new spells which combine element types.

IMC, if people want sonic damage spells, they research them in the old way!

I assume you didn't read this thread from the beginning and that's why you're asking. If, however, you did read this thread, and you still don't get, then give up, as it is simply beyond you. After all, if this topic wasn't beyond you, we would have heard from you before now, but instead, you chime in after the whole topic is dead and (almost) buried.

Technically, 2 + 2 = 6, at least in the mathematics of parenthood anyway.

Congratulations. I can't believe you found that all by yourself.

It doesn't? They are?

Thanks for the valuable input there, Gromm. Most impressive. :D

Agreed - if someone asked to take this feat in my game I'd probably disallow it
