Faster and larger Carpets of Flying??

One of my players wanted to make a Carpet of Flying for the entire party (actually it's a small boat but the same rules apply). When we realised the bigger it appeared on the book was 10ft by 10ft and that the speed was only 40ft we all were in shock...

Is it possible, by the rules, to make a bigger and faster (or just bigger, or just faster) carpet of flying
or a flying small boat actually

thanks a lot

The is nothing that hinders you from building a larger carpet (or boat in this case) of flying if you just up the price accordingly.

However it's not possible to make it faster ruleswise since it uses the Overland Flight spell to power it.

For example a 10 by 20 feet boat version with 1600 lbs capacity would cost around 105,000 gp (cost reduced because of the cumberness of the actual boat).

I guess if you bend the rules a bit you could throw in Expeditious Retreat or Haste in the creation process making it go 30 feet faster. But that at least double the price.

Actually, there's nothing in the rules that says players get to invent new magic items any time they feel like it. Any "new items" are inherently variant House Rules. It's totally up to the DM (you, it sounds like) to determine whether you want this in your campaign or not.

There are no reason either preventing the mage to create a stronger version of Overland Flight or an empowered version of it and cast it in your boat

True, but adding Exp. Retreat, and doubling cost for every time you double capacity just seems a lot easier.
True if you want to create a train but not a flying object. It make sense increasing the speed of a flying spell should be more costly than a 1st level spell

per SRD
This spell increases your base land speed by 30 feet

Look below where I specifically noted you'd be bending the rules by doing this, and it should at least double the price.
