fav starting town/village?

I'm going to kickoff a BFRPG game. What are your all time favorite starting villages? I'm looking for something a little 'points of light' - just basic fantasy. All I need is brief descriptions of the various NPCs the players would be likely to interact with. What are the best classics (keep on the borderlands, fighter's challenge, etc) and what other resources (free, $pdf, etc) would be a good place to start? I'm pretty system agnostic, all I need is the fluff.

I have a couple of village/towns on my wiki that you could steal. Diara by the meadow is a particularly nice one: Vishteer Campaign / Diara-by-the-Meadows

Ooh, great idea for a thread.

I like some of the Paizo Adventure Path cities, specifically Cauldron (from Shackled City) and Diamond Lake (from Age of Worms).

The Paizo stuff has great fluff too.

Whitehorn is one of my favorites.

There have actually been a number of villages I have liked over the years, including Hommlet.

A good smallish size city is Endhome out of Lost City of Barakus by Necromancer Games, published by Troll Lord Games.

I'll have to look through my shelves and get names of products straightened out in my head.

The Secret of Bone Hill, and The Assassin's Knot.

Village of Hommlet (but not, in my opinion, Temple of Elemental Evil.

And, a newer setting, but good, Rise of the Runelords by Paizo Publishing. Such a nice little town, and such nasty things happen there....

So is the "The Secret Of Bone Hill". You'll have to scroll down a bit, the adventure is in RTF and the maps and cover are in a zip file.

Never got to run or play in either, but I'd love to run them.

I'm going to recommend two towns.

First is Daggerford, a small town of about 400 people southeast of Waterdeep in the Realms. It has some minor political intrigue, but nothing too major. Plus, the party has an instant hook - all residents are expected to serve in the militia for a while. You can find out more about Daggerford in Under Illefarn and The North boxed set.

Secondly, I will recommend Falcon's Hollow from the Pathfinder setting. It's ruled by a lumber consortium, which I thought was really different. You can find out more about Falcon's Hollow in the following modules:

D1.5 - Revenge of the Kobold King
E1 - Carnival of Tears

There may be more on Falcon's Hollow in other Pathfinder products.

Saltmarsh? Its been a long time since I've seen that module, but I don't recall any real info on the town in it?
