Favorite Animal Companion

What is your favorite animal companion for a druid or ranger? I am only including the list of standard animals from the PhB....no dragon hawks or elf dogs or flumphs allowed. Personally I like dire apes, tigers, or leopards. They all have the advantage of being very mobile. Leopards are medium, which can be helpful in getting around.

Wolves have always been good. The only animal companion I had though was a wolverine, he was fun.

Non-dire bat, which doesn't seem to be on the list. Of those listed I'd prolly go with a hawk. But I hate the 3.5 meatsheild companions, so that colors things.

Definately the hawk. They look kewl.

I like owls, even though they are really weak, and don't really mean anything crunch-wise

But, if a raven was on that list, I would've taken that instead

not that I blame you, the raven is lame (again, only crunch-wise, Ravens are the setters of silence, y'know, with the scarecrows, and the corpses and graveyards and creepy houses (don't laugh at me, I really like horror ))

Tigers win for three reasons:
1) Fast movement.
2) Pounce.
3) Improved Grab.

They're tremendously good at killing mages, and pretty good at killing any other medium humanoids.

Wolf is always fun...but really, after playing a Kobold Druid, I can never choose anything other than a Badger.
