Favorite Characters?

Have you ever played a special character that you really remember? How did he or she stand out from other characters that you've played? What made himd or her your favorite character?
Of all the characters I've played in various games over the years two stand out:

The first was a foul mouthed pilot named Cecil that I played in d6 pulp game. I had a good time with that character and always enjoyed playing him. Cecil was the complete opposite of me in every way. He was a bash, outspoken, foul mouthed pilot/mechanic who chain smoked and drank heavily, whereas I'm somewhat shy, introverted and neither smoke nor drink. Maybe he was an attempt to act out what I would be like if I didn't have any restraints.

My second favorite character was a barbarian/fighter named Erik von Heimlich I played in a Ravenloft game. Erik was a simple craftsman from a small village in Lamordia until one day his peaceful village was burned to ground by a demon that came to be known only as "The Black Monster". He managed to escape, but every one else was slaughtered by the seemingly invincible monster. Unable to cope with what he had witnessed Erik developed a variety of neurosises and lived alone in the wilderness trying to cope with his inner demons (hence I gave him a barbarian level). After five years he returned to civilization. Honing his skills, he lived for one purpose: revenge against the monster that had taken his village, family, and sanity.
Erik was a cool character because he had a very dark past. Even though he really a combat monster, he also fought his inner demons. Playing him was kind of a cathartic experience allowing me to play a character who was able to triumph over a lot of personal problems.

What about your favorite characters?

Well, there's Remmington. Been playing him for 10 years on and off. He's basically a super powered paladin in another system.

Then there was Dravos my second edition thief who despite what everyone thought was not a thief.

And then good old Bobby. My ex Imperial Star Wars demolistionist. I almost talked a Jedi into striking me down. I was really close.

Two FR characters I've really enjoyed, second one I am still playing.

1) Mendargo Theras. Human, son of a concubine in a wealthy lords house. Grew up surrounded by the Lords obsession of obtaining eternal life. He eventually went on to become a Cleric of Kelemvor after a helping dying beggar and realising the stark difference in life and the wrongness of wanting to achieve eternal life.

He used to carry a polished goblin skull around with him. Then, if someone was un-nerved by the presence of a cleric of the god of the dead, he would produce the skull from his backpack and talk to it for a while in order to try and relax people and break the ice somewhat.

He didn't have much success with that for some reason.

2) Dalbo Foehammer. A dwarf who (due to his background story) started the game with his intelligence drained (from 16 to 8). The lack of intelligence meant he fell in with some barbarians and went from level 1 to 5 in barbarian. He used to wear a fur loin cloth, chainmail shirt, trench coat and a thick layer of goosefat.

He then got his intelligence restored, had a good wash, bought some clothes and went from level 6 to 10 as a wizard.

Barbarian/Wizard a.....different combination. He doesn't like to talk about his past.

Actually, I'm gonna have to go with an NPC here. He was a human, spoiled-rotten, vein, cowardly, geeky, nerdy, bug-collecting, daddy's-boy, yellow-bellied lvl 10 wizard. The PCs (lvl 11-13) hated him on sight, and has now loved to hate him for almost two years. He's proven very difficult to kill, though, as he is always loaded up on defensive and protective spells and always has at least two teleports ready if things get hot.

I would have to say that the character I play now is my favorite D&D character. Bolo is just too cool.
As for other systems...
Edison Starbuck in Mage. He was a Hermetic mage that used all sorts of "James bond" like divices to create the magic circles he needed to cast his spells.
And In Champions there was Rex Leblanc (The White King) A half alien immortal that had the power to control his destiny. Unfortunatly the power was under the control of his "higher self" so Rex didn't really know what woyuld happen but it all worked out for him in the long run.
At one point Rex was fighting a giant frost turtle (ala Gammora but cold not fire) without his mace. All of a sudden his power kicked in and a metior slammed into the monster, cooling it down and landed at Rex's feet in the shape of a crude mace. He kicked its tail from there.

My favorite character is also a villain. His name is Satsujinki and he's a gnomish necromancer. Almost every campaign I have has him of one of my villains. There really isn't anything special about him, he's just your typical maso-sadist cannibal gnomish creator of unlife. But he's fun as hell to play anyway. :D
