Thom's poll of the week: This question is regarding your favorite kind of combat. When the dice start rolling, how many opponents do you think offer the most fun for you and your group?

In our group we've had combats with anywhere from one to a few dozen to tens of thousands of combatants; and they're all fun in their own way. I realy can't pick a favorite number.

However, fighting multiple opponents simultaneously can sometimes make the encounter take an awfully long time (especially in high/epic level play). That can make them rather stressing when I DM (which is what I mostly do...), but then it's all the more satisfying once it's over.

I answered "Overwhelming Odds", but my real answer would be "Any really well played enemy."

Whether it's one BBEG or a swarm of nasty little pikers, I just like it when the DM really knows their monsters and uses them intelligently. Killing vermin & badly-played monsters is boring. In the words of Capt. Hook, "Where is my great and worthy opponent?"

Hey, there's got to be at least one of us who goes for the peaceful route... ;)

Barring talking our way out of the situ, I prefer the strike them heavy, hard, and fast.

After years of playing a rogue, and currently playing an Elusive Target-using Spring-Attacking Blade Dancer, I like one big target, so that I might flank it or not necessarily be the first target.

However, now playing my psion, I feel a bit miffed when wasting the other four energy missiles. But only a bit.
