Favorite/Least Favorite Class

Regardless of edition rogue/thieves are my favorite class. They are just so iconic, the hero whop triumphs when brawn or spells fail is to me what being a hero is all about.

sorry paladins but I want you to get your stuff together. What are you? The fighter already has the knight in shinning armor thing, or lots of other things as well. And the holy warrior is done better bey the cleric,with better spells to boot. Sorry paladin you better sit this one out.

The Vampire class was just embarrassing. It doesn't even make sense. Vampire should be a race! Wait, you say, but there WAS a 4e vampire race, the Vryloka. Released in the same book. So you could play a vampire vampire. To appeal to the emo goth kid who would rather be playing World of Darkness, apparently. Oh, and once you take the class you are pretty much going to be constantly draining your fellow party members of healing surges, since you pretty much have none of your own.

A friend of mine constructed a 3.5 vampire (as in vampire, vampire, vampire, half-vampire) as a joke to annoy me. I don't know how exactly they did it, as I don't think dhampir is a 4e race, but they did take the vampire class, and I think a theme and a background...

Well in 4e there are also vampire bloodline feats, I believe, so you could throw that in too...
 


Historically my favourite class is the Fighter, no question. I love the simplicity, and there's something about the concept that's just pure fantasy for me: the doughty warrior, sword in hand, marching boldly into the tomb. Love it.

Overall I like what 4e did with making it a defender, but I think the system suffered for making the baseline fighter one of the trickiest classes to play out of the box.

My least favourite is probably the Cleric. The vast shared spell list offends my design sensibilities, slows down play, and was often rendered obsolete due to the Cleric just spamming heals. For me, the 4e Cleric was definitely an improvement. I'm glad 5e has kept swift heals that can be cast alongside another spell. I just wish they'd find a way to trim that spell list!
 

Actually I was talking 4e. (As in 3.5 times vampire, but I can see how that's confusing.) I wonder if he knew about the feats, but don't you need to be a vampire to take them?

Presumably if your class is vampire you're assumed to be a vampire? Anyway, I wasn't aware there WAS a half-vampire. It does occur to me, though, that you could take revenant, which allows you to select any other race as your 'race from a previous life', and have that be Vryloka. Then you would be, by my calculation, un-undead.

It did feel a bit like it was reaching out to Twilight fans, or something equally horrendous. Vampire is not a profession to me, classic D&D vampires, like Strahd, and Jander Sunstar have classes (Fighter/Wizard, and Wizard, respectively), vampire is more like race.

You could work it into a Savage Species type deal, maybe.

I don't much care for the idea that 'D&D must be this or it isn't D&D', or that making a way for players to play monstrous races is somehow pandering to the twilight crowd. I actually see it making sense for both race and class-based options when it comes to stuff like that, jut because it gives more options for different kinds of character concepts. And games like World of Darkness have proven that people like playing monsters and that those monsters can be every bit as heroic as any other kind of character. I want options for those heroic monsters in the game that aren't 'take a huge level adjustment'.
 

In 3e- my favourite class was cleric at low to mid levels, or wizard at mid to high levels. Elven Fighter/MUs were fun as well if unaffected by level limits.

4e is my favourite edition, but I'm generally DMing and the only PC I have played was a fighter, which was great fun. There's loads of classes I would like to play in 4e, but fighter is definitely near or at the top of the list at all levels.

Least favourite for 3e- was thief/ rogue, as traps could be deadly, skills often sucked, and rogue mechanics were lacklustre. Avoiding the mechanics and playing the DM was and is important for rogues, and I dislike that style of play intensely.

Favorite Class: toss up between the Ranger and the Rogue.
Least Favorite Class: Paladin..too restrictive alignment requirements. I'd like to see an effective martial type championing a faith who was not restricted to either LG or CE.
