Favorite non-WotC publishers

Long time lurker.

After reading the Mongoose thread and looking at the long list of publishers in the reviews section (one of the most useful sections of the site, thank you reviewers), I was curious as to which publishers and their products are people's favorites.

My person favorites:

  • Bad Axe Games (Heroes of High Favor)
  • Green Ronin (Races of Renown)
  • Kenzer & Co (Kalamar line) also enjoy Hackmaster
  • Necromancer Games (anything)

I've also just picked up Midnight, which I really like, but that's my first purchase from FFG and I need a couple of products I like to meet my favorite publisher criteria.

I've grabbed products from other companies but haven't been too impressed with them. I won't name them, as I want this keep this thread from denigrating into a gripe-fest (<- grandma friendly phrase.)

Also, where can I find the rules for posting? Is it only in the FAQ? I'm hoping I'm not breaking any by posting this.

Mods, please move this to the right forum if this isn't it.

Mystic Eye Games #1
Green Ronin #2
the rest are in no particular order
Malhovic
PIG
CMG
ENW
Dire Kobold

those are the ones I buy stuff fro mon a regular basis.

Kenzer has to be my favorite, just cause I'm such a big Kalamar fan.

But Green Ronin would be second. Their stuff is surprisingly useful and I find myself wanting most of what they publish.

In terms of personal choices, I prefer using stuff from Bastion Press, Fantasy Flight Games, Green Ronin and AEG (although I may start using Malhavoc's Arcana Unearthed soon).

Bastion has a good track record of consistent quality. They pack their books full of stuff and you get more text for the dollar than some of the other publishers out there who use a lot of wide margins and large fonts. Airships and Oathbound are fantastic and capture that high-fantasy element quite well.

Fantasy Flight has really come into their own with their Legends & Lairs line, especially the four Path of... books, which in my opinion, are the best class-based books yet. Of course, Midnight is really good, but you have to want to start a new campaign to make the full use of the book.

Green Ronin is relatively consistent. There is almost always something I can use from every one of their books. Plot & Poison is getting more use than anything right now.

AEG started out being a problematic company but has got their act together. Mercenaries is probably their best "one word" book to date and sees considerable use in my campaign world. Magic, Relics and Wilds are also quite good.

In no particular order

GR
BAxeG
FFG
Mongoose (at times)
Privateer press
AEG-mercs

GR's is well done, BAG's is just classic, FFG put out quality stuff repeatedly, and Mongoose is sometimes hit or miss but the hits' are well worth it.

Forgot privateer press, monsternomicon, nuff said

I am a fan of Fantasy Flight Games. I really enjoy how their sourcebooks are generic enough to drop into any campaign. It has taken effort not to buy all of their products. :)
