Favorite non-WotC publishers

Mongoose: There 2000 AD stuff although I thought that Slaine core book was a little disappointing on a second read the classes are too close to the basis D&D classes, more could have been done. Judge Dredd is great.

Malhavoc Press: PDF is the future, so easy to pick up and always in stock. Plus its good stuff as well.

Sword and Sorcery: Scarred Lands line is really well produced, interesting, original and nearly always top quality.

am I allowed to mention Green Ronin for the M&M not strictly D20, but the thread doesn't say it has to be D20. Just says non-WotC. Heck if it is none D20 then the list gets too big since D&D is probably one of my least favourite of the RPGs I regularly play.

Mongoose, Badaxe(would love if they put out more stuff) and Green Ronin are tops, but I like a lot of companies. I have to penalize FFG for what's happened to my Midnight book after just two weeks. Great setting, but my book is already losing pages.

They had problems with some of the books. Contact them as they have been trading people their worn book for new ones that are not going to fall apart as easily.

Necromancer Games
Sword and Sorcery
Malhavoc Press
Green Ronin

Some stuff by FFG, Mongoose, MonkeyGod Enterprises, Bastion, Mystic Eye and Troll Lord Games

Really, I think it always depends on the individual product.

  • Green Ronin: The most consistently well-done variety of products from any publisher (IMO) Book of the Righteous, Mutant and Mastemrinds...it's all good. Their worst product is Hammer and Helm; that should give you some idea of the quality I'm talking about here.
  • Sword and Sorcery Studios: I love Scarred Lands.
  • Bastion: I loved Airships, and can't wait to run my "Her Majesty's Royal Air Navy" campaign. The rest of that line is interesting and useful, but Airships is the jewel in the crown. Oathbound is fine as well.
  • AEG: I love Spycraft, L5R and Toolbox,
  • Tied for 5th: MEG (not the least for Giant Monster Rampage) and Fiery Dragon Publishing(who would rate way higher if I ran published adventures).

My favorite is Chainmail Bikini Games. Unfortunately, they don't have many products out yet (two!). But Beyond Monks is awesome, and I really like Call of Duty as well.

They just need to write more material!

PS

I've gotten more use out of FFG, MEG, and Bastion books than any other.

I always buy campaign-neutral, generic stuff so that rules out a large part of, say, S&SS's books, for example. They just don't impress me.

I don't own any Green Ronin, Troll Lord Games (unless you count that module that was given to me, which I didn't care for).

Another highly under-rated company would be MonkeyGod, who make really good modules, and the Stone and Steel book was very well done, though I don't own it...

Ambient has also put out some really good products.

Personally, I like Sword and Sorcery (Relics and Rituals 1 and 2, Scarred Lands, DM Screen) as well as Malhavoc Press (Books of Eldritch Might, Book of Hallowed Might, Arcana Unearthed). Also, I liked Green Ronin's Grimoire books. (I hope that I got that correct)
