As part of the discussions about Dungeon, given the recent announcement, I thought it would be appropriate to have a serious of threads and polls about certain elements of the magazine. Since they aren't done there are many areas that aren't ready to be discussed (best adventure, best adventure path, etc). However, the d20 mini-games that were part of the Polyhedron supplement aren't one of those areas.

They were part of what might have been the most controversial Dungeon changes, before the cancellation, the merging of Dungeon and Polyhedron. However, the controversies were largely over the fans of the two magazines not wanting to be forced into the content of the other.

The d20 mini-games were certainly an innovative idea. If they weren't such a major part of the merger I have no doubt they would have been more popular.

So, for this poll I'm essentially asking two questions for each mini-game. Did you enjoy it enough that you would run a one-shot (or did)? Did you enjoy it enough that you would run a campaign (or did)?

While I enjoyed and would run almost all the minigames I saw, Hi-Jinx was the pure distilled awesome that saw me run an annual one-shot to coincide with our local group-watching of the Eurovision Song Contest. Everything else is largely on my to-run list, but that list is pretty damn long at this point.

It was Dungeon 100 for me, Knights of the Lich Queen. No doubt about it.

Although i have read through Iron Lord and Pulp Fiction which i wouldn't mind giving them a shot if i had the opportunity.

I wanted to adapt Iron Lords into a fantasy setting.

I really liked the mini-games idea: it helped make me consider Dungeon less as "adventure magazine" and more as "GM toolkit". In particular, I remember thinking Shadow Chasers as preview of D20 Modern was quite cool, and the Spelljammer redo is something I still intend to pilfer for ideas for my own campaign.

Of course, it also meant the magazine had a heck of a price when 50% of it isn't what most of the readership are buying it for.... so I can imagine why fans of both DUngeon and Polyhedron might get tense about it. I only really properly got into 3E and the magazines the very issue it debuted, so I just took it as red for a while - and only found out later on that it was a big sticking point for some people.

Since I do not own most of those, and can't tell much just by the names, it would be unfair to pick one. I do own the Omega World one, and like that. I guess I would have to see what the others were like.

I've incorporated bits and pieces from the Spelljammer, Dark Sun, and Knights of the Lich Queen into my current campaign.

I'd love to play Omega World (and a few of the others) as a one-shot.

None of the above.

It was a hard decision for me to either cancel my subscription or continue paying for a magazine I did not want. I stuck around and luckily (for me) Poly died off.

Shadow of the Spider Moon (#92) Campaign - love the idea, but would dump the guns.
Mecha Crusade (#95) One-shot - might be fun to try once.
HiJinx (#99) One-shot - brilliant!
Knights of the Lich Queen (#100) Campaign - duh! :)
Dark Sun (#110/#111) Campaign - love the desert!

messy

I have run several of these, either inspired by the Poly stuff or in some cases other materials that came out later. What I haven't done and would like to do is a Spelljammer game and a Planetary Romance a la Iron Lords.
