Favorite Sci-Fi system/setting?

What, no one has mentioned Transhuman Space yet?

Darn, it. You beat me to it. Actually, I used Future d20 to convert it to d20 and ran Singapore Sling twice with it. Both times were a lot of fun and everyone enjoyed the game, but nobody wanted to do a campaign.

As for Star*Drive, the Externals book makes for an awesome campaign. And you can have both the Star Frontiers and Traveler major races in it if you have Dragon Annual #4 and Dragon #270. And its really easy to convert Traveler PCs over (they come out about 10th or 11th level).

Tangential question: Has anyone in this thread besides me had their Traveller PC die during character creation?

Yep, significantly more than I actually got to play. I always went at least 5 terms.

Dark Heresy
Transhuman Space
Ex Machina
Heavy Gear
Jovian Chronicles
Trinity

All these games/settings rock for different reasons. All deserve space on your shelf.

Yes, twice, and then the character that did survive died before he got to make a roll. Laser to the head.

I never played that game again.

Kinda like my first hybrid Werewolf / Vampire experience. Who knew a rank 2 Black Fury could step out of another dimension into your vampires bedroom at noon and inflict 54 aggravated HT levels (he had *eight,* which is the most you can have) on her first of eight attacks before you got to roll initiative? Another game where I got to spend a ton of time preparing a character and never got to make a roll...

Dawning Star looks like an awesome setting.

It looks kinda on the "hard" side of SF to me, but I've never had a chance to play it.

Discordia sounds like it might be good as well.

Also, the original True 20 sci-fi setting, Lux Aeternum, has its own setting book already out. You are confined to one part of space, which was one of the designer's goals, but from anecdotal evidence that puts some people off.

I'm a fan of Star Frontiers as well.

For modern systems, though, I like to use Savage Worlds - it does sci-fi (especially pulpy sci-fi) really well. We ran a game using the Serenity fluff with the Savage Worlds rules and it played beautifully.
