Favorite type of monster illistrations

I have noticed many recent comments on monster drawings and depictions as seen in monster/accessory books ranging from 1e to 3e. Here is my thought-

Which are more important-
color vs bw
stagnet vs dramatic (in attack or crouching)
clariety vs abiquility (sp)

I prefer dramatic action scenes but relieve if the entire book was that it then it wouldn't have the same impact.
It's part of why I prefer 3e over the others for drawings. I still look at the painting of the dwarf discovering what an electrified door trap is and smile.

I like b&w illustrations that are clear but enjoy a mix of portraits, landscapes and action shots.
