D&D General Favourite adventures from Dungeon Magazine

Legend
I can’t see one that’s about all adventures (not just 3E or 4E) so I thought I’d start one.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think favourite means best in any way, it’s what you still remember years later, and still holds a precious place in your heart.

For me, my favourite adventures are clustered in two issues:

Issue no 53:
  • A Serenade Before Supper: A short little side trek (though not classified as a SideTrek) with some jackalweres who have taken over an inn. Short, sweet, and folkloric, reminds me of Korean and Japanese folktales. It could work well as a Usagi Yojimbo story.
  • Steelheart: Two evil societies are trying to form an alliance and it’s up to the PCs to put a spoke in their wheels. Worse, they murdered two loving parents (who were steel dragons). My players managed to resurrect the parents, which was pretty cool.
Issue no 61
  • Jigsaw: A pretty classic Gothic adventure for the short-lived Masque of the Red Death line, but honestly suitable for all sorts of fantasy settings.
  • Storm Season: I really love this adventure and want to run it, but haven’t yet, despite running a whole campaign in Arabel. I really like the Night Parade as villains, they remind me of the hyakki yagyo (parade of 100 demons) in Japanese myth.
What are your favourites? What adventures have you run or played, and really enjoyed?

There's just so many (sobs in frustration and indecision). I like these, no promise of quality (except for A Rose for Talakara).

Issue #9
  • The Crypt of Istaris: It's all over (and literally so) after midnight
Issue #10
  • The Shrine of Ilsidahur: It's strange that a shrine to a vanished god should still be taking sacrifices
  • Secrets of the Towers: Stepping through a door can mean a grand adventure or a horrifying death.
Issue #13
  • The Treasure Vault of Kasil The owners of the vault dared all looters to test their wits against it. Hundreds of years later, the vault is still unopened. Now it's your turn to try to get in.

Issue #25
  • A Rose for Talakara: He was thoughtful, obedient, and Trustworthy - the epitome of a traitor. All he needed were some heroes.
Issue #37
  • The Mud Sorcerer's Tomb: Two common Elements mixed together create deadly peril.

I have every issue of Dungeon. Most of the adventures are overwritten but you can take a bit of inspiration from them. My favorite were in the early run.

Chadrather’s Bane in issue 18.

Ruins of Nol-Daer and The Moore Tomb Map in issue 13.

And as mentioned above Secrets of the Tower in issue 10.
