[FDP] Beyond All Reason!

Fiery James

First Post
Just checked out the Sword & Sorcery site and I see that Beyond All Reason will be coming out on Monday!

Written by Todd Secord, this is a HUGE adventure featuring a lot of really really cool things. High praise indeed! :)

After discussing the issue with lots of ENBoarders, we've tried something new with this one. We've eliminated the counters that we usually include and instead pumped it up to 72 pages for $10.95 - and believe me, those 72 pages are CRAMMED with stuff.

So, next monday, look for your best value yet from Fiery Dragon!

Cool! :) I might miss the counters a little BUT for the extra stuff, I'll be happy! :D Cannot WAIT to get my grubby paws on this adventure.

If it makes a difference at this point, chalk me up as a counter fella. I just got Of Sound Mind... then within a week picked up CCI and CCII just for more of those counters.

Love em.

And they are a nice point of difference for FDP. It makes a BIG difference at sale-- lots of adventures without counters. I don't have time to evaluate the contents of a module in the store, but I can damn sure spot a bunch of Claudio's counters in the middle of the module.

Decision made!

Wulf

P.S. Please perforate!

With the two Counter Collections out there now, I think you folks at FDP can get away with leaving out the counters more often these days.

I've been looking forward to this one since I first read about it. Then Queen of Lies by Monte himself. Could a Demon Lord be next? Can anyone remember G1-2-3,D1-2-3, and Q1; 3e style. :D

I know that was mentioned a long time ago but I thought I'd bring it up again.

Thanks Wulf - we love them too!

But, within the current d20 market, it's difficult to include the counters in adventures at the current retail price (let alone perforated counters!)

In fact, the printing cost for OSM (48 pages + counters) was FAR MORE than Beyond All Reason (72 pages, no counters).

One angle we're looking at is having all necessary counters for our adventures come with Counter Collection 3 - by grouping them we'd get reasonably priced adventures and a counter collection with added value.

Just something we're kicking around.

Any chance of having counters for a module available at your site for us to print out ourselves? It would allow module-specific counters to be available at low(er) cost.

I'll second what others have said--love them counters.

Well, they'd still have to pay Claudio, and the allure of counters (for me, anyway) is the nice cardstock. Color printing on normal paper would just curl up on the edges, they'd blow around on the table-- nearly no value there at all as far as I am concerned.

I'd rather download the module... heh heh...

Perhaps we should hold a plebacite on this matter?

Counters or Page Count?

Is a tough call for certain, but for the monetary impaired like myself the 72 page adventure is very appealing. And if, as Fiery James pointed out, it indeed costs less to make a 72 page adventure than it does to include counters hopefully we can expect even bigger page counts in the future, Or perhaps cheaper 48 page adventures?

I would suspect that much of the cost of printing comes from printing the modules themselves and not additional pages. So a 32 page adventure wouldn't be a whole lot cheaper than a 72 page adventure. Therefore I would ideally like to see adventures that used the full page count capacity that the binding FDP uses allows. Perhaps including two adventures in one book ala Natures Fury in order to do so. This would give the customer the most value for their money.

Really, who would rather pay 10.00 for a 32 when they could get 80 for 11.50? Of course there are other costs involved such as paying the writers so I don't know how feasible all of this is. But just the thought of getting two full 40 page adventures or one 80 page mega-adventure for $11 is enough to make me salivate.

Just a thought anyways.

P.S

I like the idea of CC3 including tiles for all the upcoming FDP adventures. I also like the idea of them being posted on the website for free in sets corresponding to the different adventures. I could always glue them to cardstock. Besides Claudio enjoys drawing fantasy characters, and he shouldn't be getting paid to do something he enjoys. :)
