Feat-Granting Magic Items?

There are suggested guidelines in the Arms & Equipment Guide (in a sidebar near the back) for pricing magic items that replicate feats.

In a nutshell, it's 10,000 gp plus 5,000 to 10,000 gp per pre-req of the feat. You're also advised to reference magic items that provide similar powers to make sure the price isn't out of line (you know, the step that most players routinely overlook ).

A&E Guide was 3.0, not 3.5. Existing rules state you look at similar items to determine price. Similar items indicate around 5,000 gp for a feat, not 10,000 gp.

I believe that the MIC is 3.5... were the prices adjusted to indicate such? If so, your argument holds more water than the bucket you thought it was.

I think you have your argument turned around.

People were citing a 3.0 book, A&EG, for a rule about how to price a type of magic item.

I was citing a 3.5 book, MIC, for a rule about how to price a type of magic item. In fact, it's one of the newest books out.

In general, you go with the updated rules version to figure out the rule.

Were the prices adjusted? Adjusted from WHAT? The newest set of rules seems to indicate around 5000gp for a feat (even a feat like Mobility, which has a feat and ability score prerequisite).

Based on what Mistwell posted, I can definately see 3.5 charges much less for feats. I own MIC, but I have not yet read it. I'll have to browse it some time soon. Draconomicon effectively charge 12,000gp for the Mobility feat on armor of mobility. Suppose one could just halve the formula from A&EG as a starting point, then compare to other items from there.
