FEAT: Instant Spell (like Quicken spell but takes an Immediate action) Homebrew help.

There are just too many ways to cast high level spells using low-level slots, especially if one isn't limited to a single class's list.

Out of curiousity, what are the many ways to cast higher levels spells with lower slots? Also, why would having access to more than one class spell list make that easier?

Different classes quite often get the same spell at different levels, especially when factoring in Prestige class lists.

For example, a Cleric usually gets access to Heal as a 6th level spell. A Healer on the other hand gets it as a 5th level spell.

A Wizard gets Haste as a 3rd level spell, while a Trapsmith gets it as a 1st.

Certain classes like the Archivist can exploit this last one to an enormous degree, especially with Divine Metamagic. Imagine a character who had Divine Metamagic: Instant Spell and a bunch of Nightsticks. Such a character could literally cast an Instant spell every round during combat, and that spell wouldn't be limited by spell level. Instant Firestorm each round? Yup, that's possible. Instant Summon Monster IX that acts whenever you want? Done.

Even without Divine Metamagic though, it is still incredibly exploitable and overpowered.

This is more an indication of how unbalanced DMM is than any particular metamagic feat. DMM Quicken is just as bad. This is also why the nightstick was FAQed (or maybed errata'd; I forget which) to prevent stacking.

Similarly, creative use of the archivist rules to abuse metamagic feats is not indicative of a problem with those feats.

Ignoring that sort of abuse, I think immediate actions at epic levels are fair play.
