Feathers and armor

It strikes me that armor/barding would be verry uncomfortable for feathered creatures. Perhaps even to the point of bending or breaking the feathers when they moved. Any one else think this might be a problem? If so what sort of penalty would apply? double armor check penalty? Armor check penalty to attack rolls and mobility skills(non proficient)? Or maby armor check +1 for light, +2 for medium, +3 for heavy?

A different approach I've seen is for the armor to cost extra, usually x2. This accounts for the different physical anatomy of a flying race, and could also handle the problem you mention. The rationale is that it's reasonable to assume that a flying (or just feathered) race would develop armor that they could use with a minimum of discomfort, though the armor might then be more expensive to manufacture.
