feats and crafting items

Alright, so there are frequent questions about using Augment Healing, Augment Summoning, etc when using wands or wondrous items.

Is there any way to add the benefit of feats to a spell when crafting an item?

If so, are those benefits only usable by the person who crafted the items, by anyone possessing the same feats using the items, or by anyone at all?

Thank you.

If you're creating a wand, you can apply any metamagic feats you know to the spell, as long as:
  • The effective spell level is within the level capacity for the wand (i.e., 5th)
  • The metamagic doesn't change how the wand is used (for instance, you can't use Quicken Spell, because activating a wand is a standard action)
When you do this, calculate the cost using the spell's effective level (so an empowered wand of magic missile is figured as with a 3rd-level spell, and must have a minimum caster level of 5th).

The same thing applies to other items that effectively cast spells, such as scrolls or staffs.

Feats like Augment Healing and Augment Summoning aren't metamagic, so you can't normally apply them to spell trigger items. It's possible to make other items (like rods or wondrous items) that use these feats, but the costs tend to fall outside the pricing guidelines in the DMG. In any case, one of the prerequisites will always be possessing the feat in question, so you can't use item crafting to grant you a feat you don't already know.

Also, those two feats only affect spells the possessor casts, so they don't get the benefits when using scrolls, wands, or any other item that duplicates the spell.
