This thread will be hard-linked to the feats database. It contains some general tips and help on using the feats database.
[h1]What is this?[/h1]
The feats database is a repository of feats released under the open gaming license. In the case of published feats the entries are intentionally kept 6 months old since most d20 products experience 90% of their sales within that time frame. It is also an ordered database within which you can enter your own feats for review and use by your peers.
The database is still in beta and is at version 0.2 of it's pre-final development plan. Chances are good that you'll come across a bug or two - and please report them as you find them.
Currently the ENWorld database works with feats only. Eventually it will house all manner of open content from spells to psionic powers, and from characters to monsters. Feats where chosen as the first item to attach to the database since they have the fewest optional fields to complicate a search with.
[h1]How do I use it?[/h1]
To browse the feats is free (at least for now). In order to post feats to the database you must read and agree to the EN World Database Terms of Service - this will appear the first time you attempt to enter a feat into the database.
After accepting the TOS you'll be presented with a field entry system not unlike other web forms you've no doubt seen. The entry fields are as follows.
[h2]Name[/h2]
Every feat must have a UNIQUE name. If someone has already taken a name you like you will need to change it. If you are quoting from a book put the book's feat name in parenthesis () after the name. The reason for this restriction is so the feats bbcode will work properly. Feats bbcode allows you to link immediately to a feat from any post on the site by putting {feat}{/feat} around it (but use [] instead of {})
[h2]Type[/h2]
Each feat has a type. The combo box has General, Item Creation, Metamagic and Other. If you select other you need to write out the feat's name. The system defaults to General.
[h2]Required Fields[/h2]
You must fill out the Short Description, Description and Benefit Field. Prerequisites, Normal and Special fields are optional.
[h2]OGL Checkbox[/h2]
If you are entering a feat from a book you must check this box off. You'll be taken to an OGL Compliance entry form (see below).
[h1]OGL Compliance[/h1]
Whenever you enter a feat from a book you check off a box to note this. You'll be taken to an menu which lists all books currently registered in the system. Check off any book that appears in the section 15 reference of the book you're quoting. If any books aren't listed, click next item and then manually enter in any other books that weren't mentioned to add them to the system.
And that's about it. Now, let me get this thing opened up.
