Feats for a 1st lv Cleric

Hoser

First Post
I have a Cleric of Mystra with the Rune and Magic Domains. So I have the scribe scroll feat. My goal is to become a magical item creator. Any idea's for what feat I should take at 1st lv?

What region of the FR are you from? There might be some cool Regional Feat that would round out your character. (There are a lot of Regional Feats...)

As lame as it sounds, Scribe Scroll is an excellent feat. Assuming your party doesn't mind kicking it around town for a couple days, you can load up on some extra healing spells as well as some utility spells that you find yourself wishing you had memorized. Basically this feat allows you to expand your spell options and spells per day at a very minimal cost...AND it's a feat that never goes out of style.

My character is from Silverymoom. I never thougth about a regional feat. Thanks everyone

As to crafting an item. Do I have to craft say a wand if I want to make a wnad of healing?

I was under the impression that I could purchase the items as long as they were of mastercraft quality??

How about the Feat that saves 25% of all crafting costs? I forget it's name right now ("Magical Artisan"??) , but at first level it can be very useful since it makes all those scrolls cheaper for you to make. Since you will be short on funds and XPs, every little bit counts for a low level character.

Even if you don't take it now, definately consider it for a crafting feat you take later, if it's one you plan on using a lot.

I know its not an item creation feat, but a cleric can never go wrong with Combat Casting.

Cheers,

Boy, do I second THAT. CC has saved my cleric's butt more than once when he absolutely needed an in-melee buff or heal spell NOW and was toe to toe with some nasties.

But then, our party only had one true fighter so my cleric was in the front lines as well in the marching order to help him out. If I weren't in the front lines, who knows how often I would use CC then.

In 3.5e I'd recommend Skill Focus (Concentration) over Combat Casting any day. SF(Conc) will help you resist losing a spell due to taking damage, which CC doesn't help at all. SF(Conc) will also help you cast on horseback, on a tilting ship, help you maintain concentration on an ongoing spell in spite of damage or distracting conditions, etc.
