Feats, XP and the SRD.

Its my understanding that the Feat progression and XP/level tables are not included in the SRD. Is that correct?

If it is then I am going to have to rely on the comfort of strangers with a book to tell me how much Level Goodness 4500XP can buy.

I was thinking of taking a Elf Ranger (cos I never have, and I've just done a high level spellcaster and working out all the spells made my eyes water and my brain hurt [its a very small brain]), but looking at the class I wonder whether a Fighter would be better. I realise that its a bit ordinary but I was looking for something simple (all the better to RP with).

Or a monk. But I have always wondered about eastern style monks in a western fantasy setting. So perhaps the bastard son of an explorer, come to seek out his father's family. Inscruitable and incomprehensible. "Yo no unnustan sawors sat com outa mamouf?" (the great Jackie Chan) Could be interesting, but runs the danger of becoming a sad one trick joke, thou. Perhaps I would be better with the inscruitible. Actually the monk does appeal. And they don't carry much as well, a stout staff and a fist full of fingers.

So, uh, Level Goodness for a monk, fighter or ranger?

Onagai.

4500 XPs will put you between level 3 (3000XPs) and 4 (6000XPs).

Simple characters: Monks, sorcerers, barbarians. Nothing beats the beatiful simplicity of a Power Attack & Cleave & Rage dude. Sorcerer OTOH are nice for beginners who want spellcasters.

Ranger is pretty simply as well. You don't have that many choices.

Doghead, I'll let you in on a little secret: The XP/Level progression tables are built on a predictable progression. Each level costs you 1000x(Current Level) in XP.

So 2nd level takes 1,000 XP, 3rd takes another 2,000 XP (for a total of 3,000), 4th takes another 3,000 XP (for a total of 6,000) and so on.

Feats you get at 1st level, 3rd level and every three levels after that so they're easy to calculate too.

Ah. All is revealled.

Thanks. I have a barbarian at the mo in another game and he's great value (especially for winding up the paladin). Doesn't have power attack and cleave though. Something to consider ...

I think I'll give the Monk a burl.
