Feebleminded???

Question on the feeblemind spell. We gamed this past weekend and our wizard got feebleminded, next our ranger, and then my character (cleric). When my turn came up my cleric got within 5 ft of the wizard and attacked him with his war scepter. The person playing the ranger questioned this since he didn't do anything his round and said since where feebleminded we can't attack. From my interpation of the spell description I didn't see why I couldn't attack since it said you know who your friends are and will protect them. The DM also had to make a decision at that point and luckly agreed with me.

Did we interpet the spell correctly?
Are you allowed to attack while feebleminded?

Thanks,

sure, I dont see why not.

But, your intelligence is very low, so tactics will not be very good. You will probably wander through threat areas, be easily distracted, think something is a really good idea that isnt (my friend is in trouble! charge the beasts tonsils with my spoon!) whatever.

But attack? go for it ;)

I think that "Walk up to bad guy and hit it with my weapon" is perfectly valid while feebleminded. It's not like you're a vegetable... many animals have 1 intelligence and fight just fine. As Scion said, you'll have absolutely no understanding of tactics, but you can still hit things.
