No, Lich uses the 'ih' sound, and leech uses the 'eh' sound.

These sound the same for example:
Lich, Witch, Ditch, Itch, Situation

as opposed to these:
Leech, Beach, Reach, Teach, Each


the 'i' in Lich is the same sound as lit, hit or mitt
the 'e' in Leech is the same sound as keen, seen or ease

Nah, this is wight. "Wight" meant "being" before. Since Tolkien and his Galgal wight, it's an undead. The use of "wight" by Tolkien was to indicate it was a creature from the past, and not something ordinary. A construction akin to "crypt thing". Except that "thing" don't mean "undead" now.
