Festival of Halina (Orsal Judging)

OOC:[sblock]Oirhandir is getting close to the point where he would start paying to see less of Fang.

If you see Oirhandir stop and shudder every now and then, it's because he just had a vision of Fang and Hellen together...doing whatever it is that orcs and fertility priestesses do whenever they have a moment alone together.[/sblock]

(OOC: Poor Oirhandir! He'll never find the right girl! At least he's away from Fang now. What's wrong with Lasair--that whole money-cluelessness thing? And I guess he doesn't like colourful rainbows as much as Elise.)

OOC: It's the ears. He's really got a thing for sharp, pointy ears.

Seriously, he could spend hours talking to Lasair. And then some more hours talking to Lasair. And then...well, you get the picture.

(OOC: Yup, I do--he likes to take it slowly. Soon Lasair will be able to have an ability that will be helpful--Attraction. Then she can help him be attracted to new things if he wants ;))

"Why, that will be fine", Oirhandir replied with a smile, relieved that Hellen hadn't demanded his attentions as well. "I'll have to tell the others that they'll be expected at head table", he thought to himself as he turned to return to Ingus's camp.

OOC Poll for everyone:
(OOC Oirhandir's response: )
[sblock]Let's look at this from the character's perspective, first. As far as "work that has to get done", Oirhandir's priorities include:

1) Notifying all of "Fang's Other Friends" that they'll be expected at the head table tonight, some time after 5 or so, or whenever the event bell rings.
2) Making it back to Ingus's camp by nightfall every night so as to keep those 10 crowns a night coming.
3) Checking at least once a day to see if his new armor is ready. Whenever it is, he'll start trying to sell his old (studded leather) armor.
4) Until #3 above is complete, Oirhandir is "exploring". He's never been to a large gathering like this one, so he just wants to wander around and see everything there is to see. If that can be done in 15 minutes, fine, if it will take 4 or 5 weeks, that's equally fine...Oirhandir has no problem with coming back again each year until he's seen and done everything.
5) Regarding mingling with townsfolk and his misinterpretation of Hellen's actions, Oirhandir isn't quite so eager to find a partner as say, maybe Sunny is. Not that he has a problem with anything along those lines that is likely to happen at the festival; like most elves, he's pretty open-minded about such things. However, like most elves, he is also used to such things moving at a pace about 200-300 times slower than they are probably happening, which is why he was so taken aback with the Fang-Hellen thing.
6) Regarding #5 above, another factor is that he hasn't really found anyone who is "his type" so far, and that includes Lasair and Elise. Not that he doesn't enjoy their company a great deal, but he would be more attacted to someone like Katherine DeSylvia, one of Kahuna Burger's characters that he met and adventured briefly with. And, not to put too fine a point on it, Oirhandir is the sort of guy who would actually think he stood a chance with a nymph, should he actually meet one (about the only sort of common fey that he hasn't met, actually). Hey, why not? He speaks the language, has a reasonably high charisma, and he's an elf. Nymphs dig elves, right? ;)
7) Also regarding #5 above, should he be put on a spot, his motto might be "When in Covington, do as the Covingtonians do". Really. (Insert punch line here.)
8) As DM, you probably don't need me to remind you of this, but Oirhandir is aware that Sunny had a "romantic interlude" the day before. He doesn't know who his partner was. To Oirhandir, Daphnie is just "the mayor's cute human daughter who tossed a sheaf of wheat onto Fang", nothing else. He doesn't know who Sunny, Troi, Elise or Lasair have been hanging around with during the day, and didn't notice any of the aforementioned persons being present when he and Fang watched the dance at the Freefolk camp.

I think that should set the stage. That covers what's in Oirhandir's head right now, and what his reactions likely would be to more of the same.

As you can see, I'm starting to run out of in-character "open air" stuff to do. Basically, Oirhandir will wander around as time permits. If you throw interesting things to do at him, I can interact with that. If you don't, well, Oirhandir will attempt to make himself useful to Ingus, Ingus's hirelings, and the rest of the party, and will just kick back and enjoy himself as time permits. If the character literally runs out of things to do, he'll pull out the chimes and start performing, maybe hooking up with another bard. It'll be a fast week, from your perspective.

Oh, and for the record, Oirhandir would pay 3 whole crowns just to watch an aloe massage. :) [/sblock]
Currently, Troi and Sunny are in Ingus's camp talking. Elise and Lasair eventualy wander back later in the day as well, having their usuall odd discussion.

OOC: [sblock]Thanks for the input. The problem is that there is so much to do, that I could RP out each and every booth stop, but it would probably take us years to get this finished in a PbP format. So I guess is simply highlighting your wanderings a bit, perhaps with a memorable encounter here and there, ok?

Keep in mind, this is my first run PbP, and I'm bad enough at pacing an adventure normaly, so just trying to get a feel and give you all options while avoiding the 7 year game.

You haven't seen a nymph yet, but given all the strange people here, you wouldn't be supprised.

Let us never speak of Troi and Fang giving each other an aloe massage again  [/sblock]

For the first time in a day or so, Oirhandir wandered back into camp without Fang.

"Gentlemen", he called to Sunny and Troi, oblivious to any tension between them. "I have some good news. Of course you know that Fang is Master of Ceremonies at the festival; I am pleased to announce that we've all been invited to sit at the head table with him."

The elf glanced about. "Say, do either of you know where Elise or Lasair can be found?", he asked. "They're invited, too, and I'm sure they'd be displeased if nobody informed them."

That works well for me.

Do you have any idea of how many openings for humor the situation of a young orc's fancy turning to love presents? Try to imagine Hellen putting together sappy little poems about her paramour's manliness, er, orcliness, and you'll see what I mean.[/sblock]

OoC: [sblock]Wow, the things I miss when I don't have a handy computer... I'm good for whatever is fine with everyone else.

Speaking as Troi, I have no interest in large gatherings of people. They are somewhat depressing and reminiscent of home, and things that are reminiscent of home are rather depressing. Not often being included in such events makes me feel uncomfortable when so invited, and being invited to the head table makes me more than little uncomfortable; I'll go, but only because the other members of my party are doing so and I have nothing better to do for the time being - though if an opportunity to skip it comes along, I will more than likely take it. I have no interest in publicity and have no interest in keeping up a "good image", so I have little interest in being invited to the head table, even if I didn't have a problem with crowds, and I have no interest in making small-talk with random vendors, which is very much a possibility at the dinner or whatever it may be. While I have an interest in looking for things, I currently don't have the means to buy anything worthwhile, so browsing at the festival is more or less a wasteful venture. At this point I am slightly irritated with how this job is going, irked that it has so much free-time for simply wandering around on my own, and would much rather be on our way back to Orussus so I can find another one, preferably one with more... action, and perhaps more seasoned company.

Speaking as a player, I find the pace to be a little slow, but not too bad - considering I'm not always on the computer as I used to be, it's probably good that it's a little slower. I don't have any problems with hanging around the festival and RPing quite a bit - though I'd like it understood that Troi isn't interested in such things and probably won't do a lot of it (see above paragraph). So if I'm unusually quiet for awhile, don't take it personally. :)[/sblock]

Oirhandir
"Gentlemen... I have some good news. Of course you know that Fang is Master of Ceremonies at the festival; I am pleased to announce that we've all been invited to sit at the head table with him."

Troi looks to the elf, and shrugs. "So long as we don't hafta do a speech er anythin', I'm fine wi' that."

Oirhandir
"Say, do either of you know where Elise or Lasair can be found? They're invited, too, and I'm sure they'd be displeased if nobody informed them."

Troi shakes his head. "Sorry, I dunno where they ran off to."

Oirhandir found that amusing. "I wouldn't worry too much about that", he replied with a smirk. "If any of us will be giving a speech, it will be Master Fang, and that should be worth the price of admission."

"Oh, there you are. I'm sorry, I was so busy... what's that in your hands Hon, is that for me?" Hellen says, quite excited to see you. She waits for Fang to confirm it's a gift for her before coninuing on "Oh, that's nice sweetie." She opens the fine pouch and pulls out the neclace, and holds it up in the light. The small raindrop gem sparkles in the flickering lights. "Oh, this is so pretty, thank you sweetie." She says, and gives Fang a big hugs and a quick kiss. "This will look perfect with my dress for tonight." She drops it back in the back and ties the back around a sash on her robe.

"So, hun, now that ye're back, we got to get you all preped for the feast tonight, and I can let you know about the last feast at the end of the week as well. Prolly need to get you cleaned up and dressed up a bit as well." Hellen looks around Fang at Oirhandir and says "Hey there, I think Fang and I can handle this on our own. You go enjoy the festival, and I'll make sure I save a place for you and your friends at the head table ok? I won't keep him forever, just till the feast, which should start between 5 and 6. We'll ring the event bell ok?"

[/sblock]

"Tanks fer yer 'elp" Fang offers Oirhandir as he shoos his out the door. "Fang take it from 'ere."

After Oirhandir leaves Fang begins to blush slightly. "Sure wanna look good fer yue tonight" Fang admited. "An I'm tinkin a fair lady like yerself knowin 'ow to dress up'a man."

OOC- I vote 4. I'm a mover and a shaker
