Feystep With a Rider...

Scribble

First Post
So I'm thinking about building an encounter where a knight rides a horse with the feyborn template...

How would you rule the fey step thingy as far as the horse is concerned... When it feysteps can it take the rider along with it?

I'm probably going to say yes, simpl because thats neat... But anyone see any problems with this?

Since the horse has the (mount) keyword, it should work, although I believe to benefit from mount-specific abilities the rider needs the feat Combat Riding (I think that's the name, don't have my books at work).

Yeah, but it's an enemy so I'm not so worried about the proper feats... :p

But yeah, I guess if my PCs get ahold of the horse and manage to get it to let them ride it I will need to remember that.

Thanks!

If you're going to house rule that, I'd add a wee extra rider so that it doesn't make the player too powerful.

If the character is not Fey, then stepping through the Feywild is a traumatic experience which leaves the character weakened until the start of their next turn.

Hrmm... Do you think it's that much more powerful then some of the other rider powers?

I'd rule that you'd need to create an original mount for him, whose mounted combat ability is that it can move with its rider whenever the rider moves using a power with the teleport keyword.

EDIT: Didn't read closely enough. Reverse the above. The mounted ability is that it can Fey Step with the rider, in place of whatever mounted ability it had before.

Actually yeah, it's a tad more powerful than several abilities, although I remember gryphons being good... but, at the cost of a feat for Mounted Combat, you should be fine.

I just think that it's stealing some of the coolness of another race - Eladrin should be better at Fey Step than any other race otherwise it takes away some of the point of being one.

That's a rather intriguing question actually... I once asked what would happen with an Eladrin riding an Unicorn (since both have Fey Step).

I honestly don't know if that's too powerful or not.
