[FFG] Redline RPG?

Hey all,

Thanks for the questions. Rob is the developer on the Horizon line, and he's hard at work trying to meet his Giant Lore deadline. He's pecking away at his keyboard muttering about fire giant weredinosaurs and such.

I'm not going to be able to answer all the questions, but I can tell you that we'll try to make the Horizon line as compatible with the core d20 System rules (SRD) as possible. We have no plans to use d20 Modern or another source for these books. There will be new classes, skills, feats, and subsystems as appropriate to each genre, but that's about it.

Thanks!

well, i just lost interest. :(

not to be rude, but what's the point in basing a post-modern action setting with no magic on a set of rules for emulating medieval fantasy as opposed to a set of rules for emulating modern action?

how easy will it be to convert to d20 Modern?

will there be any advice in the book itself for doing so?

I think this is definitely one of those cases where we won't be able to please everybody...

I don't want to debate the merits of d20 Modern. Suffice it to say that for our purposes, a slightly tweaked and customized set of rules based on the d20 SRD is a better fit. The most important thing for us is that we want DMs and players to be able to pick up our Horizon games and quickly and easily start playing, because they already know the rules. Many, many more people know the core d20 System rules than d20 Modern.

That said, I rather doubt we'll reinvent the wheel. Where the core rules lack things that we need (for example, autofire rules), we'll likely go to the d20 Modern SRD.

Because some consider that the set of rules for emulating modern action is not good for emulating modern action, and that a few rules change on a set of rules for emulating medieval fantasy can do the work, with a greater customer base (more PHB sold than d20 Modern books)?

Mind you I'd have preferred the rules to be for d20 Modern as well. BUT I can see the point to doing it as a straight d20 system game. There is still alot one can do with it. For instance:
A P.A. setting wherein Dwarves ride around on massive harleys, as well as, orc biker gangs and such! Or maybe your Dragonstar game needs a twist? Have your party's ship crash land on the world of Redline!
I'm just glad FFG is putting this one out!

Thanks for replying, Greg. It's going on my preorder list for Wednesday.

d20 Modern and D&D are practically the same thing. In fact, I can't really see much differences except for purchase DCs, and that each book has different needs. Granted, I haven't started my multi-genre campaign yet, but I don't forsee many compatability issues. Even Star Wars is a little different... yet most everything can be tweaked into one system. (just adjust the blaster damage in Star Wars to make it fit d20 Modern)

It's really not bad.

So we'll see how it goes... ;)

Thanks
Chris

The skinny on horizon

Hey all,

Sorry for not replying sooner. I've had 3 books going to the printer this week, oy! But that's exciting, right?

Anyway, Horizon . . . they are mini-games. They are mini-games set in specific nifty genres. They are d20 mini-games, and therefore based on the SRD. They will undoubtedly be drawing from both the SRD and the SRD Modern, but really all anyone should need is an understanding of the d20 system to be able to play.

Each book will provide all of the classes, skills, feats, equipment, setting info, NPCs/Monsters, and additional rules needed to play the game.

Would it be helpful to have the other Core books available to check on what the effects of being nauseated are, or figure out exactly what cancels out blindsight? Sure. But aside from material like that, they're fairly standalone.

Does that answer the jist of the questions? Thanks for the interest!

Thanks for the additional info Mr. Vaughn.
Could you possibly give us some Teaser info on some of the Redline Classes and such?
Regards,
Brutorz Billl

Mostly, I just want it to be compatable with characters from D&D or wherever without any major rules adjustments.

Thanks

Sure, it's compatible with d20 Modern PCs, for instance. But a good portion of the campaign's coolness, IMHO, comes from the feel of the classes.

As for teaser for the classes, I'll give you a few names to whet your appetite: ganger, squawk, rigger, redliner, walker, and jax. There are a slew of character backgrounds to mix and match.
