Fiend Folio Table of Contents

I'd be happier if they added a revised list of Summon Monster spells, after these additions. Of course I can fiddle and add to my list anyway, but it would've been nice to have that work done already...

Not that I'll be seeing the book for another 6 weeks, stuck out in never-neverland like I am.

Actually, a lot of the outdsider descriptions give a summon monster spell for them "X can be summoned using an Summon Monster X spell". Which is nice, and makes the book more useful.

There are lots of little "If you are using X book, then Y" sidebars as well, which is good, but not enough!!! For example several have a "If you are usign the book of vile darkness" sidebar, but not the fiend of possesion, which clearly involves some rethinking of the possesion rules from that book.

I assume that this book was written with 3.5e in mind?

A'koss.

yup. It has a list of renamed skills and a feat at the front. I'm not sure I'm the best person to mine it for 3.5e info, but I'll give it a go on the weekend...

is the keeper like the old planescape one or something new

Not sure, never read much planescape stuff. Ok, the keeper is a nuteral outsider that can mimic weapons, spit poison and comunicate with one another telepathically. Sound similar?

I second that. I created the feytouched for the MM2 but alas it did not make it. I was pleasantly surprised to see it appear in this list for the Fiend Folio! :) I also did the Sporebat, Spriggan and Tunnel Terror for the MM2 and can't wait to see how they came out in the FF.

Did you want more than I already posted? Let me know what you want posted from the others. Anything you think they might have changed? You're credited with "additional design" in the credits.

Just a question about the Wendigo. What special abilities does it have? If I recall correctly, the Wendigo personified cannibalism (Is this correct, or is this Hollywood?). Does the FF Wendigo have anything to do with cannibalism?

The description has a lot of canabalism in it, and the idea that it bites you, then you turn into one who then goes and eats other people is the basic idea behind it. So they transmit the disease that turns you into a wendigo, have a bite that does extra crit damage, 'maddening wispers' (wisdom damage), wind walking, regeneration, and they're hard to spot.

Also I'm wondering about Living Holocaust. Aside from the arguably controversial name, what exactly is it? What special abilities does it have?

I'm not sure the name is vary contraversial... holocaust means burnt offering, and the living holocaust is a CR 13 evil fire and air elemental that sets things on fire.

Here's some further questions, does any of the FF creatures that were originally slated for the MM2, still use the art in the MM2 gallery on WotC's site?

Do the Keepers resemble Men in Black, much like how they were in Planescape?

Which monsters are listed that didn't make it in? I can't remember... as for the keepers... not exactly, though I can see an influence now that you point it oout. they certainly wear black.

Just reprinting this from another thread...

Hi Olive mate! :)

Are there many CR20+ monsters in the book?

Also is the art good (?) any Wayne Reynolds or Brian Despain peices?

Hi UK,

a) There's 1 CR20 (Crawling Head), 2 CR21 (Demon, myrmyxicus & Thunder Worm), 1 CR 22, (Devil, paeliryoth) and 1 CR 25 (demon, klurichir)

b) No Brian Despain that I can see, but a couple of nice WAR. Most of the art is pretty average I'm afraid, and there's some really odd random B&W almost clip arty type pieces which don't seem to fit any where. I'm pretty sure some of them are reused from MM2 or BoVD...

so... does the kelpie have an illustration? Is the Xerfilstyx devil like the Styx devil in the 1e FF? Why is there no flumph in the 3e FF? :D

yes, the kelpie has a illo. it's shouws the head rising from the water.

I can't remember much about the old styx devil, but the xerfilstyx is a CR 18 devil that lives along the banks of the river styx, and has a lower half life a giant slug.

No flumph? presumably cos they're stupid. fun, but stupid.
