Fiendish nomenclature question, and 3eMM rant...

As far as which fiend types are which, Manes are Manes they are described in the MotP under the entry on Petitioners of the Abyss. Dretches are Dretches. And from what I've heard before the Malebranche from 1e is the Cornugon...

As for illustrations ignoring descriptions, the MotP has that problem as well. Mezzoloths and Nycaloths should only have two arms...

I presume name changes occurred during 2e, and so I'm left wondering how to map my 1e pictures onto the 3e MM descriptions?

Your mapping is the same one that I've identified.

I'm sure you've noticed that for the demons, the names are in fact the same as those given secondarily in the 1st Ed. MM (true type-namws for I-III, sample individual names for IV-VI).

I'm not trying to shamelessly plug a product I worked on, BUT...

... for those of you who found the MM lacking in pictures, may I suggest taking a look at the two Counter Collections already out (with a third one on the way). In there you'll find pictures of lemures, osyluths, vrocks, succubi, hags, ropers, displacer beasts, worgs, slaadi (blue, green, red, gray and death), treants, dark naga, pixie, nightmare (with no flaming mane!), hell hound, liches, ghouls, wights, wraiths, aranea, blink dogs and many, many more to come (anyone mentioned fiends?)

Back to your regularly scheduled thread. :)
