"Fighter" Character Concepts

Try my idea. Fighter Linguist. Knew 7 languages at first level. (took the feat Cosmopolitan) and this is in Greyhawk, no regional languages.

Barbarian

Half orc Barbarian, Tribal Protector, Frenzied Berserker is a tight combination. You didn't mention the splatbooks, but I thought I'd throw this one out there. It works particularly well with a maxed out Str/Con and the biggest weapon you can find to swing two-handed.

Here's a character idea I want to get around to playing one day. The son of the executioner to a disposed lord. No longer having a position to inherit he sets out on his own. I wanted him to have a new exotic weapon, executioners sword. Like one of the square tipped german execution swords (stats like a mercurial greatsword with out the mercury nonsense.) Use the power attack/cleave tree, death blow from S&F, maybe some sunder/improved sunder fun, power lunge, basically anything that screams smash. Young, happy go lucky (despite the grim nature of his background), big sword.

I am sooo stealing this idea. Thanks Oni!

Go for a dwarven defender.

Exotic weapon: waraxe
weapon focus waraxe
power attack
toughness
weapon specialization
dodge, endurance

Go one more level of fighter and then at level 8 go dwarven defender. At 9th, take Improved Crit. Make him a LG surly drunk who loves to start barroom brawls, but feels guilty later paying for all the damage.

Or, on the opposite end of the spectrum, go the duelist route. A light armored human fighter using a rapier, expertise, improved disarm, specialization, and spring attack. If you allow the splat books, go for the PrC. If not, you can still simulate the flavor by wearing light armor, getting a high Dex. If you you might consider using the flail then for the bonus to disarm people.

One of my favorite characters started as a Half-Orc barbarian to get a little flavor into the character, then I went through some levels of Ranger to get some prerequisites for Animal Lord from Masters of the wild...If I could have gotten there from Barbarian I would have...but oh well, you can't have everything...

As an animal lord I chose bear as my totem animal...made a certain sort of sense...

Hope I get to go back to playing that character some time, He was a lot of fun...

A few ideas:

1) A Half-Orc fighter with armor spikes who is focused on grapple attacks.

2) For a thrown weapon, I'd recommend light hammers over hand axes.

3) If you can use Sword and Fist a Duellist with monkey grip, and a longspear to make precise strikes, and use canny defense with reach.

Thought: Isn't there a feat somewhere that allows you to use melee weapons as thrown weapons? (probably in Sword and Fist)

I can see a 1/2 Orc Ranger/Barbarian weilding a battle axe and a short sword, and throwing the battle axe at a fleeing foe.

You're thinking of the Throw Anything feat from Sword & Fist. Though why take the penalties for it, when you can just as easily wield a throwing axe as your off-hand weapon, and not have any penalties? The 1 point average damage different between the two axes isn't worth it, except for coolness factor.
