Please don't take my advice as an insult, because its not meant as one.
I agree with Dandu. That spell list is horrible. Get haste.
I also think the described tactic should fail badly. An Old dragon of any variety should not be challenged by such things. A black dragons lair should also include at least one prevalent piece of water terrain for it to use.
It probably can't cast Dimension Door, but should definitely have some magical method of transporting itself. And it should have dispel magic as a spell. It's been alive for at least 400 years. It's supposed to be smart...and scary.
