The group tends to mix in cohorts from the leadership skill, one sorceror gives themselves a bodyguard and the party cleric has added in a second cleric for more healing now all they need is a rogue cohort and they can handle most things.

The group I DM for has no Rogue. As such, no one can open locks. The PCs simply bash down the door. Because of this, anything behind the door is not surprised and gets a free shot at the PCs. They just deal with it. If they come to a trap they cannot disarm, then whoever has the most HP walks right through it.

My group knows that I will try to compensate for severe holes in their party, but they still do me (and themselves) a favour by taking the Leadership feat every now and then. I'm actually quite surprised by the results of the poll so far.

My players cope to the best of their ability, but I find these are the kinds of things that correct themselves with a little PC attrition (which is usually caused by the glaring holes in the group).

In my game we have 3 people - 1 to DM and 2 to play PCs- and have taken to playing 2 PCs each. Which in the poll would be "Yes - they play two PCs, or take the Leadership feat"

Except the question is: "do the PCs/Players seek out an NPC to fill in the position?" and by that wording the answer should be
"No -they play two PCs or take the Leadership feat"

because every character in the party is run by a player and therefore is a PC not an NPC.
