Round 10

In our last round the Emerald Claw attempted to take hostages.
The party mostly didn't care.

Sedar is safe inside the body of the skytruck waiting for the combat to end so he can come out.
Kae and Zook (one untouched, one mauled) are in cover at the barricade.
Rethlin is in the middle of the freightyard between two crossbow bolts.

The order is:
Bonewright (aka Bandanna man)
Kae
Zook
Emerald Claw Mooks
Zombies
Rethlin
James and the Watch
MANTICORE
Sedar

"Blood of Vol!" Bonewright exclaims.
"What kind of good guys are you?"

He plucks a scroll from a belt pouch and reads it.
Bonewrights UMD Check (1d20 10=23)

A layer of sticky grease springs from the ground, covering the approach to the stairs and right under Rethlin's feet.

Rethlin, make a Reflex save DC 11 or fall prone in the grease.

Kae is up!

Bonewright (aka Bandanna man)
Kae
Zook
Emerald Claw Mooks
Zombies
Rethlin
James and the Watch
MANTICORE
Sedar

Kae wrinkles her nose. "See?" she remarks to the wavering guardsmen. "He couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with that thing. Get out there before that Flamer ruins all the fun."

[sblock=OOC]Would you allow Kae a Diplomacy check to make the guards attack? And if so, what sort of action would it be?

If it's allowed, my result is 1d20+9 = 15

If Kae can blast Manticore again while motivating the guards, her roll is 1d20+3 = 5

which I imagine is a miss.[/sblock]

Zook uses this opportunity to pull out a scroll of his own and casts Protection from evil on himself off of a scroll from behind his cover

OOC: so this is actually the end of the bless and in effect now is Protectio nfrom evil for 6 more rounds thats + 2 on AC and saves vs evil creatures.

OOC: A round is 6 seconds so your PFE will last 10 rounds, even when cast from a scroll...

Rethlin makes his save and stands firm in his boots and faith alike.
Kae encourages the guards to move forward: they look motivated, but not enough to gain a bonus on their initiative.
Zook adds an additional ward to his formidable protections.

The zombies Rethlin turned groan and flail against the fence in fear of him.
The Emerald Claw mooks on the porch look fearful as well, but they step out of cover to block Rethlin's path onto the porch -- not closing to melee through the grease, but he'll need to get through them to get at Manticore and Bonewright.
They fire at Rethlin.

Firing on Rethlin (1d20 2=11, 1d8=3, 1d20 2=14, 1d8=8)

Twin bolts clatter harmlessly off Rethlin's armor and shield.

Rethlin is up. No, he cannot charge the Emerald Claw mooks: the grease is in the way.

OOC: Confused again, sorry. Rethlin's run took him 60 feet, the Grease did not slow him down like a Web or Entange spell would have. The range to Manticore was 60 feet, or the distance to the foot of the stairs was 60 feet? It was stated as the total range to Manticore was 60 feet, thus Rethlin decided to risk a run.

OOC: This is the fundamental trick with the Run action, it takes a full round and thus we must determine how to resolve what to do about anyone that gets into the way before the begining of Rethlins next turn. The whole point was to close with the archers. Need a little help here to clarify where everyone is.

OOC: Rethlin's AC is back to 21 now that he is done running.

OOC confusion

It's my understanding that Rethlin ran as a full-round action.
My understanding of the rules on full round actions is that they are not complete until just before the initiative count of the person taking the action on the next turn.

If that sounds as awkward to you as it does to me, try this reference:
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/combat/actionsInCombat.htm

The sequence of actions regarding Rethlin should, I think, then be as follows:

1. Rethlin starts running.
2. Bonewright casts Grease.
3. Rethlin makes his save vs. Grease.
4. The two Emerald Claw mooks take a standard action to attack, shooting their crossbows at Rethlin.
5. The two Emerald Claw mooks take a move action to get between Rethlin and the named bad guys.
6. Rethlin finishes his run in front of the mooks, on the porch and out of the grease.

If Rethlin can live with this, we'll move on.
