Thanks haiiro, thought I might have been going crazy. Just reread the book, turns out I was mistaken - the comment is actually that silence is something gotten right, it is the invisibility of lasers in battle that is mistaken. But to an extent, yes, sound can in a sense be transmitted in space, but only in an absolutely useless manner (that being Pielorinho is also correct). I happen to find that funny twice over.
Must be especially confusing watching Wash with his made up mandarin talking to someone saying something at least approximately genuine.
Another epsiode in (does feel a bit like they split the pilot in two and played it after the second episode, can't be sure until I get the dvds), definately my favourite characters so far are Mal and Wash. As well as being funny, Mal has the kind of competence I like to see in a character every now and then. Wash, Wash is just funny
My outrage over its cancellation is now personal, rather than academic.
I still maintain that the problem with sci-fi/fantacy series is... what? I want to create a new thread to discuss it.

Wasn't there a reality show about candidates for going into space? Maybe my imagination/memory acting up again. Always creating scenes that never were.Ranger REG said:Now all we need to cheapen science fiction genre is have a reality show looking for cast of the next sci-fi movie or series.
