find these monsters?

Please help:
Hi, am a fairly new DM running "Barrow of the forgotten King" for experienced roleplayers (one of their campaigns has been running for longer then I've been alive - no pressure!) but I obviously don't want to spoil things (or let them rules lawyer and prep in advance) so I have no one to ask: where on earth are harriers, distracters and assaulters from? I have a good list of monsters and what book their from but they are not included. Also, where is the Stygian template from? Again I have a good list from which they are absent.

Thanks.

This is a good place to check:

According to the index, harriers are from an old 2nd Edition Monstrous Compendium, and I don't know if they have been translated to D20 as yet. Sadly, it didn't know the other ones.

Alternately, you could post the old stats in the Creature Conversion forum and ask for help converting them. There are some good people here on ENWorld that might be able to help you out here.

Hope This Helps,
Flynn

I'm at work now, so I can't be certain, but I think the Harriers, Distracters and Assaulters are all variations of the homunculi found in the Eberron Campaign Setting and in the Magic of Eberron. In BotFK, they are simple constucts and not homunculi though.

I appreciate that this sounds patronising, for which I apologise, but if you don't know the material, perhaps you should run them through something else? Or substitute these monsters for equivalent monsters with which you are familiar?

All of them have been converted to 3E, which is why they're in the 3E module. There's a thread someone here will find and bump that lists where each of the monsters comes from. WotC also has a monster listing on their site that says which book comes from which book.

And yes, Quartz, that is patronizing. The module provides full stats necessary to run the dungeon; it's just missing the descriptions of the monsters.

And unreasonable, too.

The monsters are deep inside the pages of the adventure, and WotC's handling of wacky monsters in their recent adventures has been a common criticism.

I don't see anything in the other thread or the WotC monster index about assaulters or distracters, so I have no idea where those come from.

Harriers come from Defenders of the Faith, an old 3.0 supplement. They're incorporeal birds of prey, the size of dire bats, created temporarily by a spell in that book. Nothing more informative than that is available on their appearance, seems like.

These are not what the Harriers in BotFK are, they are constructs more akin to the homunculus in the Magic of Eberron book.
