The biggest thing that newcomers gripe about with DMGenie is the screen interface. I've got to admit -- it's intimidating! However, with just a few clicks you can get to just about every piece of information you'll ever need: spell/psionic power descriptions, feat descriptions, combat data, inventory info, encumbrance data, skill checks, conditions on the creature (such as dazed, invisible, fatigued, and so on).
And creating a new creature for an unplanned encounter is simple! Just choose New Creature off the Window menu and a dialog box pops up. Select a creature after filtering by CR, apply any templates you want (undead? vampire? fiendish/celestial?) and click "Add to Group"! All equipment will be there with weapon attack information, stats/saves, AC, skill checks, etc.
If you download some of the custom feats, you'll be able to click on Breath Weapon and the program will roll damage for you and report the save DC. As a work in progress, more stuff is being added all the time...
If you try it out, be sure to run through the tutorials. The screen layout and the program itself will make a lot more sense then.
PS: I'm not affiliated with Mad Scientist Studios; I'm just a satisfied customer.
