Fireball shooting question

Ooook. The fireball description says rather clearly that you have to make a ranged touch attack if you shoot the pellet through e.g. an arrowslit.

Now the question is: Could you aim with the pellet at someone by making a ranged touch attack, thus giving him (in case of a hit) no chance to save????

Would be rather bad against rogues and monks if yes.

No.

(By the way, your next question should be "And if so, can a rogue get sneak attack damage with it?")

From the topic, I expected it to be the "Since the pellet detonates if it hits anything solid, could you ready an action to shoot an arrow and intercept the pellet as soon as it leaves the wizard's hand?" question.

That would look very cool.

My Thoughts on Fireball Targeting !!!

I think that the Fireball description regarding targeting thru Arrow slits is meant to reflect that a Wizard is tring to get the spell off by squeezing it thru a very narrow space, hence the requirement of a ranged touch attack roll. It would be unfair if they were also allowed to target a single person as well thru an arrow slit, hence negateing the reflex save of the targeted person. Anyway that's my 2 cents...any other comments ?

Hyp, not to disappoint you, but exactly this scenario was one of my first threads here ;) (Maybe you were refering to that one.... )

But I liked the readied mage hand against bottles of alchemists fire more :D

I agree with the ruling but it sounds only logical for balance purposes ;)
Hmm. I'll think about it again, perhaps I allow the damage against one person if you aim directly...

Maybe you could try a Ranged touch to get the fireball thru the arrow slit and then followed by another ranged touch to target an individual, but still allow the individual a save if they notice the fireball coming(they may not due to the chaos of combat) OR. allow saves but with modifiers for how accurate the mage was. eg if the mage rolls a natural 20 then no save, if the mage hits but only barely then a modified save accordingly. Maybe a natural 18 or 19 could be a -4 on the reflex save for half damage. Just a few thoughts....;)
