First session of RttToEE

That's a big acronym.

Anyways, I just finished played the first session of the module. It's the first time I've run a module in about 10 years. It went really well; almost had a TPK twice! which is saying a lot, because I haven't killed a PC for many years now.

Hopefully my brother will post the pictures and a short session write-up on the website. When that happens, I'll link it to this page.

IDHMBIFOMRN is even bigger. You 'almost' had 2 TPKs? Aww...I was hoping RttoEE would put my players through 15 TPKs a session.;)

Welcome to the meatgrinder :D!! The campaign of RttToEE I'm currently DMing has the players midway through the Crater Ridge Mines. We've had about a half dozen PC deaths thus far, with three or four very, very near TPK's.

This can be quite an epic adventure (despite many peoples gripes about the high mortality rate) if you're willing to invest the time and effort necessary to really understand the setting. It's even better if you extend the effects of what's going on in module, beyond the given parameters and locales. Our group is having a ball with this adventure, because we've managed to avoid making it feel like the world's largest dungeon crawl.

Great, just great. A game I play in on Sat. nights we are starting it tommorrow, and another game The DM is going to be sending us in when we hit 8th level. Group on saturday is 5th.

Congrats!

As I do for any DM running RttToEE, I recommend hitting the DM only RttToEE forum on Monte Cooks site:

www.montecook.com

Use the messageboard link, and head over to the RttToEE forum. There is a ton of advice, info and everything imaginable for the DM running this massive adventure. I'd also recommend joining the Yahoo group. There is alot of downloads, handouts, etc to be had.

Enjoy!

I can type "RttToEE" without thinking now....

We're at character level 10 and we've had 7 deaths. I understand this its somewhat low for this adventure. Just tell your players that there's gonna be carage.

And I will second checking out Monte's site - its beyond useful.

One of the problem's I'm facing with "offing" PCs is that I've only got 2 players right now. So any death will make a TPK that much more possible. That's not going to get me to back down, though... ;)

If either of your players are fairly experienced, consider giving them an NPC to run - something simple like a fighter or barbarian. Playing two characters in D&D can be tricky but its okay if they have a primary character and a secondary character.

Fatalities

One way to think of the ArteeteeTee'o'Ee'Ee is as a primer for higher levels. Our 15th level party has had people die in three of the last four sessions we played, and that's with a DM who tries to keep us alive.
